Rusty92 Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 Just wanting to get going on some snap tight slump busters. The decals in the Monogram kit are in great shape, at least on the sheet they are nice. Hoping they are not brittle and they will lay down nicely. These look like nicely detailed kits. I’m hoping they are as fun to build as they look!
stavanzer Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 Good Luck. I have the Yota, and can't wait to see what you do with it.
Rusty92 Posted November 4, 2021 Author Posted November 4, 2021 (edited) @alexis thank you. I’m thinking about doing the box art vehicle for each, I just happen to have similar paint to match which seems to never happen! I did a little bit of work on the Toyota. Mostly test fitting the whole thing and started filling in a couple glaring gaps around the rear cab piece. The Datsun kit has quite a few parts, I was surprised to see that. It had been a while since I bought the kit. Edited November 4, 2021 by Rusty92
mikemodeler Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 I built the Toyota, modified the front bumper and switched out the kit tires for a set I had laying around, can't remember where I got them.
Zippi Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 Nice couple of models there to build. I see the Subaru Brat listed at HL all the time as in stock but they never have it. Would probably pick it up if they ever had it in stock.
stavanzer Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 The Datsun, has the typical Monogram Tracker A/T tires. They look awfully square-sided to me. You might consider trying other tires (if you have any) to see how they look instead. But, It is really up to you.

I’ll probably use the kit tires, as I don’t have a lot of other decent alternatives. Not much progress. I am filling in the holes on the back of the cab since they look pretty large. Tonight I want to fit everything on the body, putty, and maybe prime some smaller parts. I will post photos!
Rusty92 Posted November 6, 2021 Author Posted November 6, 2021 Some progress today. Shot a coat of primer over all the parts but the body. Started filling some gaps on the back of the cab as well. Here are some progress photos on the Toyota. The Datsun is in the sink getting a bath.

Pulled the Datsun out of the bath, started filling in some gaps on the rear cab piece. Also started cleaning up some panel lines with my Tamiya scribing tool. The Datsun body looks pretty good. Some stuff doesn’t line up too well, like the tail lights but that’s alright.
Spottedlaurel Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 I look forward to seeing them progress. Sadly the AMT Toyota isn't common here in the UK, but I have a couple of issues of the Datsun (different to yours).
stavanzer Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 I am excited to see your progress. Things look good.
Lordmodelbuilder Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 Nice work oh the Toyota. I built the Miller Datsun when it was issued in the 80's. I built it to look like a friends lowered truck. 1
