carbuilder1950 Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 (edited) This is a lower portion of the1960 Chevy Impala body from a Revell kit, and the upper half with all the windows is from a Jimmy Flintstone resin body, and I married the 2 together to get this hardtop wagon. I've never seen a station wagon with a continental kit, so I thought I'd give it a shot and see what it looks like, and I gave her a hardtop look also. Paint is nothing fancy. Just Tamiya white and rubbed out. I think it's OK. For the rear side windows I used clear ear swab packaging that has the perfect roundness to fit where the body is rounded. Gotta be imaginative sometimes - LOL Thanks for taking the time to look. So much appreciated ?. Edited November 12, 2021 by carbuilder1950 3
Doug 1061 Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Very nice. That continental kit looks good on it.
Steve H Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Hi David, long and low, I love it. Not sure if the continental kit is practical, but it looks awesome! Looks like a lot of foil on that one! Very interesting hinge on the hood. Very nice clean build indeed. Cheers, Steve 1
ChrisBcritter Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Very attractive! Not the first '60 hardtop wagon model, though - way back when an Argentinan toy company called "Bichi" cobbled a couple AMT promos together, copied them and created this: 1
Zippi Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 That's one slick looking wagon. Nice mods on the top section and that engine bay looks sweet.

It's just my take on how one would look, and the fun I'd have building it, and I threw in the continental kit to see how she'd look, just for fun. Not very practical, but I like it. Thanks for stoppin' by and checkin' my old girl out. Edited November 12, 2021 by carbuilder1950
Koellefornia Kid Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 I really dig the stance of this great looking wagon! Usually I'm not a big fan of continental kits but it looks cool here!
Geno Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 What a creative and cool build Dave. It should be an "SS"............Super Sweet.?
NOBLNG Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Excellent job! I like that hood hinge idea.?
Hoffman Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Wow, that is so cool! And, you're underselling how much work was involved to pull it off. Like, scribing the revised door lines in the Revell lower body, cobbling together the interior, etc, etc. You make it sound and look easy; the finished product is so nice. I bet the build photos would make peoples eyes pop. ?. Very well done, David! I like the '58 hub caps too. Now, don't forget to put an upper radiator hose on there before you take it for spin. ? -TIM- 1
Spottedlaurel Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Wow, very impressive. Looks really sharp. I'm not too familiar with the 1:1 or the kit you started with, but as Tim suggests I imagine there's an awful lot more work here than first meets the eye.

I'll have to find a hose and get my old girl in working order. Thanks for the heads up Tim ?
espo Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Beautiful looking Wagon. I wish someone would offer that top again. You blended everything to gather with an OEM type finish. Chevrolet didn't offer a hardtop wagon, but they should have looking at this. The Continental kit wouldn't have worked on a 1:1 since it wouldn't allow the Tail Gate to drop down all the way, but it does look cool. Nice hood hinges and the engine again looks like a factory unit.
TransAmMike Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Cool build there David. Man back in '60 that car would get a lotmof attention. Very nice?
Lunajammer Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 You're too modest David. There's some daunting successes here. Continental kit practical? Of course not, but customizing has a long history of attention getting impracticality. Looks great and I love the optional hood positioning.
Claude Thibodeau Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Hi David! Another beauty, bravo! Your hood hinge system is very simple, and very clever! I'll try it on a future build... CT
Dan Hay Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Just like your other builds, looks great and is properly proportioned. I will say though, it'll run hot without an upper radiator hose...? 1
ATHU Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Wow!! Looks absolutely sensationel, excellent attention to detail!!
Tom Geiger Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 The Connie kit looks great! I real life I could see it on telescoping struts off the bumper.. pulls out far enough to allow gate to drop!

I'll try it on a future build... CT @Claude Thibodeau my friend. That's a really simple hinge I used there. I use several variations of that hinge with still a simple design. I make them so the hinges are poseable. A simple little trick I've used over the years. I'd love to see your version. Dave
Claude Thibodeau Posted November 13, 2021 Posted November 13, 2021 Hi David! Here's my typical scratchbuilt system, on a 61 Impala (Lindberg body). Hours of fun with styrene! CT
bbowser Posted November 13, 2021 Posted November 13, 2021 Really cool longroof! I've been working on something similar, a '59 Caddy wagon using the roof from the Bad Actor '60 wagon. I can appreciate how much work went into this.
