GLMFAA1 Posted November 20, 2021 Posted November 20, 2021 I know it not a defender but its as close as I am going to get. The fender flares from the AMT Ford 'Vantom" fit closely to the body. Will be using the wheels in the kit. greg
Painted Black Posted November 20, 2021 Posted November 20, 2021 Cool, one of my favorite shows. DJJ rocks!

hct728(Bob) Posted November 21, 2021 Posted November 21, 2021 Love the build, Greg, thought of doing one myself, wish they used the readily available Mercedes G-Wagen (I have two)
Painted Black Posted November 21, 2021 Posted November 21, 2021 Well yes she does. but I was talking about Cat, Danny John Jules. Red Dwarf..
MeatMan Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 Nice project! One of those few shows my wife & I used to watch together!

OOPS, though DJJ might have referred to Josephine Jobert who plays DI Florence. Didn’t know Dwayne was a serious actor, though they all must be since the show is well done. Miss him, funny how the crew keeps changing, such a beautiful place to film, Guadeloupe, I think
GLMFAA1 Posted November 22, 2021 Author Posted November 22, 2021 Interesting when doing research there was a comment that the Land Rover never broke down. They did an upgrade or got another one because pictures vary with license plates and wheels. Only original is the Land Rover, even the Royal Enfield changed. Anyone have a suggestion for the light bar brackets? Has anyone ever made the decals they would like to share? greg
GLMFAA1 Posted December 23, 2021 Author Posted December 23, 2021 UPDATE: Have roof rack brackets being 3d printed, I got a Welly 1/24 defender in die cast, so this gives me the wheels, wider tires, new dashboard, mud flaps and rear fender flairs since Welly sides are plastic, Has anyone ever mated a die cast clip to a plastic model body? I'm experimenting with using the front Defender clip to the Revell Body. I will lose the engine bay, The only problem is the diecast hood has a bubble in the middle of it, I might try to make a hood with out a bubble. greg
thatz4u Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 just watched season 10, interesting how DI Poole made a cameo appearance.....
iamsuperdan Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 Just a thought, you could have someone print this, then do some cutting and pasting. https://3dprintable.shop/product/land-rover-defender-110-2011-printable-body-car/ Once I get comfortable with my printer, this is actually a mod I was going to try on one of my Revell LRs.
GLMFAA1 Posted December 28, 2021 Author Posted December 28, 2021 OPINIONS WANTED: Autopsied the Welly kit and surprised that it was as close to the Revel scale. Have found out that the front seats will work also. Upon inspection of pictures I have of the DIP Land Rover the hood is actually dimpled where the Welly model is raised. Now what do I do? Has anyone had a problem with the wheel/tires being centered in the wheel wells? I have several plans: 1. Cut the die cast front and transplant it to the Revell. 2. Make a mold of the die cast front, the make casting to clip to front of Revell kit. 3. Use parts and make parts to front end of a defender. Picture: I can cut the clip at the windshield frame and rework the inside to accommodate the kits details Picture 2 Kit hood and Welly Hood Picture 3: Welly hood overhang that would match to radiator shell. Cast or hand made. Picture 4: Hood choses, stock, welly or hand made Picture 5: Welly wheels and tires on Revell Kit greg
hct728(Bob) Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 Wow, still lots of work ahead of you! Diecast can be cut pretty easily and seems like the easiest route to me, and if you choose to file down that hood bulge, JB Weld is the thing for filling it in, just leave a rough edge for it to bond to
thatz4u Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 great job thus far, keep up the good work....
hct728(Bob) Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 Wow, just found a 1/24 diecast on eBay, strange that I didn't see it in searches before, look for Cararama 1/24 Scale Diecast 125063 - Land Rover Defender - Blue https://www.ebay.com/itm/164805034088
GLMFAA1 Posted January 2, 2022 Author Posted January 2, 2022 Thanks Bob for the link, Price range a little steep for what I planned on doing to the die cast, also the tariff costs from England to USA are unknown. Nice die cast just need to splash the yellow on it, greg
GLMFAA1 Posted January 23, 2022 Author Posted January 23, 2022 (edited) Had Matt (Down River Productions) at shapeways make these up for me, Great for any roof rack applications. Thay are the tallest bracket and can be cut down to fit other applications. https://www.shapeways.com/product/4A6RR2JER/thule-12in-mount-x8 greg Edited January 23, 2022 by GLMFAA1 added photos
GLMFAA1 Posted February 11, 2022 Author Posted February 11, 2022 Got the brackets and light bar in place, I might just keep it as older model Land Rover. greg
hct728(Bob) Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 Great progress on your replica! Nice comparison shot, little difference between the two except for the middle grille section and longer hood. I'd be tempted to do the grille with Evergreen strip, seems like it just fits into the inset between the (same) light bezels on the older version. Depends whether you're ready to move on or not, though I found making a grille pretty do-able and fun. Nice work!
PatW Posted February 12, 2022 Posted February 12, 2022 One of our favourite police programmes here in the UK too! Totally new staff at the station though!
Chariots of Fire Posted February 13, 2022 Posted February 13, 2022 Hey, Greg: That grill in the diecast looks like it is easy enough to cast but if that fails, try using some plastic strip stock for the horizontal pieces, fill in with other pieces for the outside.
GLMFAA1 Posted March 10, 2022 Author Posted March 10, 2022 The project continues. Made mold of the die cast. Once cleaned up will drill out lights and use kit lights. still working on hood greg 1

Don't see this one any more here, now they're showing "Endeavour" here. Love those '50's Jaguars and Austins!
