junkyardjeff Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 I got the Monogram 90s F 250.and since its molded in color I am seriously thinking about building it that way like I did when I was a kid and did not have any money for paint, engine and chassis will be painted along with some detailing under the hood and interior but that is it. Anybody ever done that lately.
Jon Haigwood Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 Haven't done that but I have been thinking about it. I seem to have a lot of issues with paint. Maybe because I try and get flashy and it mostly comes back to bite me maybe something simple might just be in order. I have a Foose panel that I used a metal flake silver base with a Blood Red Candy over it and it has been restarted about three times so far for runs or blemish's. Planning on a couple T.R.O.G. builds with just primer colors.
junkyardjeff Posted December 8, 2021 Author Posted December 8, 2021 This time of the year I have issues painting in the basement so this is will be a build while paint and glue are drying on the other two but after looking over the body I might have to paint, the color is not that great like on 60s and 70s kits.
Snake45 Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 I've got many, many model cars with polished plastic bodies in my collection now. But of course it has to be the right kind of plastic to work.
junkyardjeff Posted December 8, 2021 Author Posted December 8, 2021 The color on this body is just not consistent and just looks cheap,I have a few 60s and early 70s kits that were not painted and they look great. I was hoping to do a lazy build but might not happen,I will post pictures of the body tomorrow of where I have concerns.
espo Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 Leaving the body, or other parts for that matter, in the color of the plastic is not a bad idea if it's the color you want. A suggestion on any body prep or surface sanding that may be needed. Use the finest grit sand paper or sanding pad you can find. Follow that with some of the real fine polishing pastes and then a good wax finish. I have done this on a few in the past and the results have turned out real nice.
junkyardjeff Posted December 9, 2021 Author Posted December 9, 2021 Do not know if it can be seen in the picture but something happened to the color when it went through the mold and its all over the cab but the rest looks good.
peteski Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 When plastic with metallic particles is injected into the mold, the particles can often show the flow of the liquid plastic inside the mold. It is normal to see this type of artifacts.
junkyardjeff Posted December 9, 2021 Author Posted December 9, 2021 The bed has it too so I am now thinking of painting so its not going to be a minimal paint build now,it now looks like when I build the 1963 34 Ford kit that will be the one that will be minimum paint.
BlackSheep214 Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 I have seen some incredible polishing work on bare plastic. Can it be done? Absolutely.
