Jack L Posted December 18, 2021 Posted December 18, 2021 Is the engine in the Firebird set back more than in the Camaro ?
Scott8950 Posted December 18, 2021 Posted December 18, 2021 (edited) I've never heard of this before but I do know if you put a sbc in these cars it's in the same location as the camaro engine. I know the driveshaft from the firebird is the same length as the camaro and also considering the bbc is bigger than the poncho engine I'd say the answer is no. Edited December 19, 2021 by Scott8950
Classicgas Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 Seeing as how both cars used the exact same chassis, I would have to say no.

For clarification, are you saying both kits or just both real cars? I have a Monogram '56 and '57 Chevy that both have the same chassis.
Classicgas Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 Both. As far as kits, you need to take into account what kit manufacturer, when it was tooled, etc. Those Monogram kit would have the same chassis as would a real 56 and 57, except for perhaps wagons and convertibles. Convertibles have strengthened added to the chassis.

espo Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 Are thinking of applying 1:1 car dimensions to our hobby building a model? This would in most cases trip you up. Example, Revell '66 and '67 Chevelle kits. In 1:1 the parts in almost any case will interchange. In the modeling world you better plan on a lot of trial-and-error fittings before you commit to gluing anything together. This I have learned the hard way.

Read some where the Firebird engine was back more than the Camaro It's possible the engine mounts on the firebird block are located differently than the Chevy, which could make it appear so. Find pics showing the a frame and #1 spark plug. That will show if they're mounted the same or not. The sub frame is the same, as is the floor pan.

Also, do some research and see if the transmission mounts are the same for 1G Camaro and Firebird. If they are--and I suspect they are--then the engines have to meet the transmissions at the same place.

Mount and driveshaft was used with no modifications.
