Mattilacken Posted December 20, 2021 Posted December 20, 2021 (edited) So I got hold of two MPC kits of the third gen chevelles. First I found was the release of the Pepsi Chevelle. Have started doing some work on the body, including mods on the hood to make it more in my taste. Also got hold of a tbird chassis for that one and made some cuts to make it fit better, but I need to extend it and fix a new top to the cage. Then I got hold of an original issue of the third gen kits. Never opened, original vintage price tag and crispy plastic wrap. I would actualy like to trade this one for a opened, even started kit, and some other nascars as donors. If I won’t succeed with the trades i will open it up and do a 3D scan of it, iwork with that often but in full scale, and my cousin is CEO of a company that works with scanners, I will make a 3d model of it so it can be printed in the future when I have a printer available. would any how like to do scans of both the body’s and a extended r bird chassis since even they are hard to come by here. A question for you that have been seeing nascars and/or held the olds kit of the same generation in your hand, I heard it need allot of work not sure on what part, but except for the obvious front and rears of the body, it looks to my un trained eye to be quite easy to make the olds work as a donor for fenders and roof for the Chevelle? or it might just be as easy to Make a complete print of the body since you won’t use anything from the olds any how due to the chassis being what it is. I thought I post here for these projects and update When any progress is being made or cutting of wrapping ? Edited May 2, 2022 by Mattilacken
Muncie Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 One of many good places place to get a lot of photo references is the Petersen Publishing archive - Petersen Digital Archive enter a search for NASCAR, select a good year and set the pictures per page to 240. You can click on a picture to enlarge it and scroll thru the pages and pages and pages with the arrow in the lower right-hand corner. Of course, it will need a little selective filtering because it shows other NASCAR series like Grand National and Winston West along with Cup. Hope this helps

Mattilacken Posted January 29, 2022 Author Posted January 29, 2022 My initial plan was to make this sort of a rescued and repurposed build, that a nascar chassi was made to race on other types of tracks. But I might put an interior in it and do some thing different. not sure if I should keep the thread here though or move it to modelcars. Did a mock-up yesterday. The plan at the moment is 2gen Camaro interior modified to fit of course. with rear seat delete if I can’t find a suitable rear seat, since the Camaro seats are so small and the Montecarlo seat is antique looking in comparison to what I am looking for. 1
Mattilacken Posted February 26, 2022 Author Posted February 26, 2022 Since I am in Brazil at the moment I won’t make any model work but started some inspirational work. 1
Lowlife ! ! Posted March 1, 2022 Posted March 1, 2022 I like the look of your drawing, the original slated side windows are unusual ! Look forward to seeing what you do with it... 1
Mattilacken Posted March 1, 2022 Author Posted March 1, 2022 Re made the side window.. really like this design. 1
Mattilacken Posted March 18, 2022 Author Posted March 18, 2022 So I got the resin copy from @gks1964 in the mail and unpacked it the other day! A really nice cast with the different options. Thanks allot m8! Will source an other monogram GM nascar to use as a chassi donor even for this street car project, I like my rides to be low and aggressive with coilovers like race cars for the street. ? 3
Dave Van Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 Dean Milano did a stock S-3 conversion in a early SAE article. Good start

Good start Okay, I have also seen the stock build here on the forum that was available for purchase for a while but they have a long backlog I have heard and they say that once and a while they pop up at the bay. It’s kind of interesting that Salvino’s haven’t made a Chevelle since they have the Buick al ready, even though also they would be nAscar spec.
Mattilacken Posted April 29, 2022 Author Posted April 29, 2022 I was fortunate to score a 1974? Oldsmobile Cutlass Johan snapper. I took it out and compared it to the MPC body’s. And they are very similar. Wold say that the roof is the same. And maybe the b pillar is thicker on the original MPC Yarborough Chevelle, and yes I cut the plastic. I am not sentimental. I think I need to order some chassis and go ahead and build three different GM’s from the 70’s. After the beemer and Silverado though, or I do as always do, and build many simultaneous so none will get finished ? 2
Mattilacken Posted May 2, 2022 Author Posted May 2, 2022 Actually put some love in to that Cutlass body, need to address the trim on the left rear side window after some filling and sanding, and the trim was junk to start with any how. Don’t know how to address it at the moment though. But otherwise it looks like it’s not to far from primer. A shortened bmw spoiler ad some well needed attitude to the cutlass rear. Probably jacking the suspension a bit higher in the rear. 3
Mattilacken Posted May 4, 2022 Author Posted May 4, 2022 Got primer and a coat of paint on yesterday. Not what I had in mind but I can’t get my black Zero paint to spray evenly, it spits, so I grabbed an Tamiya can in the cabinet so it got gray. 2
AmericanMuscleFan Posted May 10, 2022 Posted May 10, 2022 Great job on the Cutlass Anton, the small spoiler is a very nice addition and the raised back gives it attitude! I really like the '75 Chevelle Laguna, especially the front end. You don't see it often and it could make a very nice restomod or any kind of drag racing car... ?

I believe so to, gives it the attitude it needs for pulling of the raked stance. ? Glad you like it. Have been thinking of several different ways on that one. Since I have no original interior parts for these, the stripped out racing interior or custom is my only ways to proceed. Time will tell ?
Steve H Posted May 11, 2022 Posted May 11, 2022 Looking good Anton. The Cutlass has some attitude for sure. Nice work as always sir. Cheers, Steve
Mattilacken Posted September 19, 2022 Author Posted September 19, 2022 I had to try the monogram chassi that I bought for this one. Actually fits way better than the AMT 1/25 chassi since the wheel wells are so much bigger on the Monogram chassis. The rear end have to come a bit forward ant the ride height need to be adjusted but that’s the big mods needed that differs from the AMT. Other than that the firewall needs to be lowered a bit and the cage need some mods but less than the AMT. Have been thinking about engines and I was thinking of using the AMT ford engine with a set of small block heads, or a CBB. Fun fact, the Monogram oversized CSB almost have the right dimensions for a CBB so a set of modded heads and intake and it would definitely work as a CBB. 4
Mattilacken Posted September 23, 2022 Author Posted September 23, 2022 (edited) The idea of an interior is still there.. Edited September 23, 2022 by Mattilacken 2
