jcbigpaw Posted January 3, 2022 Posted January 3, 2022 So I finished a whopping 1 kit in 2021 and it was one I started in 2020. Sad. So my cure is to dive head first into a major slice and dice custom build which I need to have done in time for the West Coast Kustoms show in May. No pressure right? I will be using a couple AMT 50 Chevy truck kits and various other items to recreate the Rod & Custom Dream Truck. I have collected lots of pics and magazines from back in the day that show how it was built so I will probably follow that path for the most part. Why redo the work if someone else has already figured out the best way to do it? I’ll post some pics as soon as I start cutting. ☹️? 1
bigdrag1 Posted January 3, 2022 Posted January 3, 2022 One of my Favorite custom trucks, This will be a fun build to follow ! Good luck on the build !!
Cool Hand Posted January 3, 2022 Posted January 3, 2022 Look forward to following along with the build. Seriously cool custom truck. I remember Mark Gustavson's version he was building, but I dont recall if he finished it or not.
chris chabre Posted January 3, 2022 Posted January 3, 2022 i love that truck, even more with the first bed it had
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 3, 2022 Posted January 3, 2022 Great project, definitely worth doing. And building it along the lines of the real one is always smart.
falcon wagon Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 I think RMR resin is doing this truck I know Ray parsons did one and Ron got all his Masters e mail him and ask rmrmodels@gmail.com

I thought you were referring to the one featured in Scale Auto Enthusiast magazine but that was Bob Barnett Edited January 4, 2022 by jcbigpaw
Phildaupho Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 Great project and I look forward to following your progress.

chris chabre Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 I like both the primer and the lavender/purple paint versions before it got redone

Wasn't finished the last time I saw its progress at GSL. Here's two bits of the whole project, the first is Mark's video seminar on it with no less than Spencer Murray himself also offering commentary, and the second is the PDF file to Mark's big book, in which chapter 7 shows quite a bit of his fabrication work on the truck, PDF pages 41 - 73. Photos of the 1:1 truck are on page 23, and there's much more on the project in Chapter 10 starting on page 102. It's all at the other end of model building that involves very few kit parts, but details can be gleaned from it for a plastic kitbash. https://archive.org/details/gsl-xviii-dream-truck-gustavson-murray http://www.gslchampionship.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/HowToBuildChampionshipScaleVehicles.pdf Edited January 4, 2022 by Russell C page # typos 1

Theres an appendix at the very end which contains an article showing the completed model as Mark critiques it. It was very similar to the R&C Dream Truck but not a replica. Still many good details and techniques included. Marks skills are way beyond me so I'll stick to the plastic. Lol Thanks again for the links. 1
Spex84 Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 Now that's an ambitious project! I'm going to enjoy watching this one
