happy grumpy Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 From the 70's flick " The California kid ". Now for the Ford coupe , I tried to replicate the movie car but when it came to the decals , I initially found a set on eBay so I thought " great " I ordered a set , only to realize that it was a clear decals with only red flames so when you apply this to a black surface you end up with a shadowy reddish blob . So I look into the spare decals and applied a substitute that kind of looks like the flames on the car in the movie. The car is still around but has changed a bit over the years. I build it with the wheels it had in the movie. Sheriff Roy's car is the AMT belvedere converted to a Savoy. I looked at screenshots and did my best with what I had. I am happy with the results though, not exact replicas but certainly recognizable for anyone who has seen the movie. Thanks again for looking. 2
Jim B Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 Great combo, Mario. Never saw the movie, but the cars are definitely cool! How did you do the whip antenna on the Savoy? Looks like Christine's good sister.
TooOld Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 Pretty cool , I think you did a great job replicating the movie cars ! Great job !

It's a useful technique when you need thin, round antennas like they have on military vehicles and older aircrafts.

Bil, It was a snap kit from Revell, I only added the front bumpers and scratch build the rear bumper. The wheels and tires come from the kit bashing box. There is another kit from Revell (second picture) but it is unusable, the scale is off . I guess the ZZ top 33 could also be used. 1
mustang1989 Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 Oh wow!!! Both of these cars look GREAT!!! That Ford is VERY cleanly built and really like the weathered look on the Savoy.

Well done, I never would have guessed a snap kit.
grodudulle77 Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 Very realistic, your pics are neat, awesome work !! ??
David G. Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 What a great set! Excellent work on both of them. David G.
Koellefornia Kid Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 (edited) ? Nice to see someone else´s build of the California Kid which is my all-time-favourite hot rod! I built mine some years ago from the eliminator kit: I wanted to replicate the still existing post-movie version. Sheriff Roy´s car looks great, too! Edited January 7, 2022 by Koellefornia Kid
Zippi Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 Very kewl looking Mario. I'm thinking that copper would have a tuff time catching that coupe. I like that big ol wip antenna on the cop car.
Phildaupho Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 Excellent pair of models that look great in your photos. Well done. The California Kid is still on my want to build list.
1959scudetto Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 Fantastic builds as usual, Mario ! I saw the movie a few years ago on youtube (especially the car chase scenes) - your cars look like the real ones!
spencer1984 Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 Great job on both of them, I have a California Kid Ford I need to get building one of these days.
