If I wrote the rules all trucks would have white steering wheels!! Yeah, I love the three spoke white steering wheels. Such a classic look. They're always cracked and look oval on the real thing from years of truckers pulling on them to get up in the cub!
Gary Chastain Posted March 8, 2022 Posted March 8, 2022 Really nice detail, like to see when builders improve these kits.
doorsovdoon Posted March 16, 2022 Author Posted March 16, 2022 Thanks guys. Finally got the paint on, and I decided to add the wind deflector. The pinstripes are a bit wavy and not very sharp, lots of touch-ups on bleeds and fuzzy edges, but it's the best I can do. Masking pinstripes is definitely where I fall short in model building. 1
Mopar - D Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Looks really good Gareth looks like you cleaned up your bleed through.

The camera is a bit too kind to me to be honest. I guess that's a good thing, haha. Hopefully when I add the trim pieces and mount the cab, it'll busy it up enough to not be too noticeable.
doorsovdoon Posted March 20, 2022 Author Posted March 20, 2022 Modified the grab bars to look closer to the 1-1 truck by cutting up the ones in the kit, also made the bumper guard. 1
doorsovdoon Posted March 20, 2022 Author Posted March 20, 2022 (edited) Added a release lever to the fifth wheel and made up some air hoses to hang on the back. The lever is made from an old paper clip and the air hoses made from solder and then painted. Edited March 20, 2022 by doorsovdoon 1
doorsovdoon Posted March 20, 2022 Author Posted March 20, 2022 Fitted my scratch built wipers. They're not bad, they look a little more realistic than what came in the box for sure. 2
doorsovdoon Posted March 20, 2022 Author Posted March 20, 2022 All done! I was up late last night getting it finished and then added some final detail this evening. I messed up on the grille while trying to blackwash it. The chrome wore off and I tried to Molotow all the vanes... impossible!! Lol, it was a mess. So I had to paint it all black and just Molotow the outside trim. I'll post more pictures in completed section tomorrow when it's light. 1
Mopar - D Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 Awesome build Gareth on a rear version of this Astro.
TruckerAL Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 This is a fantastic build. Gave me many ideas for future builds! Love it, great work?
tbill Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 What a knock out! That looks fabulous! The headlights give it suck a different look, great build.
slusher Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 Great looking GMC, Gareth! I missed it on following this one…
doorsovdoon Posted March 22, 2022 Author Posted March 22, 2022 Thanks guys. Yeah, the headlights give it a very different look. When I seen a picture of the real thing, and knowing I had a set of headlights just like it, it had to be done! haha. The pinstriping and masking the colour scheme was more difficult than lowering the cab. Very enjoyable kit though.
