Jim B Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 (edited) With all the chatter about how nice this kit was: I figured I'd try one for myself. And I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. The kit went together quite nicely, with one exception. Street rods & hot rods really aren't my thing, but I figured I'd "expand my horizons", and give one a try. It is box stock, with a couple of minor details. My build was inspired by Chris' build over on hpiguy's Workshop: My build was actually "finished" on January 23, 2022; but I just received the replacement windshield frame from Revell today. Coca-Cola plate from the AMT 1977 Coca-Cola Ford van, and the Arizona plate is from the Revell of Germany Kenworth W900 Wood grain on the dash is from the bed decal from (I think) the Revell 1937 Ford Delivery van or the Revell 1941 Chevrolet pickup Radiator hoses are solder as the carbureted engine isn't designed for the stock frame & body All in all, I'm pleased with the results. AMT68 Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Very impressive build. Great work on the engine detailing.
Jim B Posted March 16, 2022 Author Posted March 16, 2022 Thanks. Thought about wiring it, but decided against it.
happy grumpy Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Nice build James and from the looks of it, it seems like a nicely detailed kit. Your details and craftsmanship certainly added to realism.
Jim B Posted March 16, 2022 Author Posted March 16, 2022 Thanks, Mario. Yes, it is a really nice little kit.
ea0863 Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Awesome job. I'm getting ready to do one as well (as a matter of fact, I may do two - considering there are just about enough extra parts in this kit to accomplish it). It's interesting that you didn't wire the engine - I personally think that's the right decision for this particular build. I find that too many details actually look cluttered or out of place on some models.
Russell C Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 (edited) Nice! Small detail that only the locals might mention, an opportunity to put another decorative plate on the front if you wanted one? Arizona does not require front license plates. Edited March 17, 2022 by Russell C typo
Jim B Posted March 16, 2022 Author Posted March 16, 2022 (edited) Thanks, guys. I appreciate the positive comments. Russell, I didn't realize that Arizona only requires a rear plate. That's an easy fix as it's only attached with white glue. ? Edited March 16, 2022 by Jim B
NYRich72 Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Beautiful build. I'm actually working on one but am at a standstill. I don't know if it's a common problem, but the windshield frame on mine is so warped that it's pretty much unusable. Contacted Revell and they are shipping me a replacement part from Germany. Oddly(?), it takes 6 weeks to reach the USA but only 3 weeks to reach the rest of the planet.
Jim B Posted March 16, 2022 Author Posted March 16, 2022 Thanks, Rich. Yes, that is a common problem with this kit. I had this problem as well, contacted Revell about the problem, and promptly received the windshield. Guess something was lost in the translation. Contacted them again, and received the windshield frame yesterday. The new frame was nice & straight, so either I was lucky or Revell has figured out the problem.
espo Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Beautiful looking build. The kits detailing looks good and your assembly shows it well.

Zippi Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 Nice looking. The red & white looks nice. I've built a couple of these myself. Nice kit and you did a great job on yours.
bisc63 Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 Man, that's pretty! Almost too clean to be a hot rod!
Jim B Posted March 18, 2022 Author Posted March 18, 2022 (edited) Thanks, Rusty. And that, my friend, is why I'm calling this is a street rod. I read once that street rods are designed to get you there in style; hot rods are designed to get you there in one piece. Rat rod? No idea! Edited March 18, 2022 by Jim B

So many delays these days that I wasn't totally shocked by what Revell mentioned but I'd sure prefer getting the part sooner than they said.
