Scalefinishes Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I like it. The red frame will set that cab off nicely. Jameston
Ayatollah Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Nice day cab! I have a sidelined daycab UPS astro gathering dust and would love the time to finish it.
Mike Cole Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Great start! I look forward to seeing this one finished.
oldstyle Posted January 9, 2009 Author Posted January 9, 2009 Thx for All your Comments Tonight i worked on the Dash. to make gauge Lenses i used 2 Compound Glue put on with a Toothpick it works Nice and looks like Real Glas here are some Pic,s Uwe i have One Question for the Engine: can everybody tell me the Right Color for This One??
Jim B Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 That dash is amazing! Very nicely detailed. Actually, the whole thing is amazing! The color for the Detroit Diesel 8V71 that comes in the Astro kit is Detroit Diesel Alpine Green. We can get it here in the US at auto parts stores, but I don't know about Germany.
Scott H. Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 i have One Question for the Engine: can everybody tell me the Right Color for This One?? Nice work on the dash! I'll have to try the glue trick for gauge lenses in the future. Going by the GMC Astro I have the unfortunate ability to say I had driven in my youth, paint it greasy, oily, grimy black with flaking rusty metal. Seriously, I could not tell you what color was under the grime! Every time the shop fixed a leak on it, something else would start leaking!!! Every time my '67 Mack would go into the shop for PMs, I would get stuck with that thing and would hound the mechanics mercilessly until I got my old reliable Mack back! Before I was done driving the truck, I did have a "rubber duck" hood ornament put on it but I never did manage to talk them into letting me paint it black and put a white brush guard on it... It sure wasn't for a lack of trying though!!! -Scott H.
oldstyle Posted January 9, 2009 Author Posted January 9, 2009 @ Jim b THX for the answer i go out and take a look at this Color in the Autostore, or Mixed it on my Bensh Uwe
Eshaver Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 For what it's worth, the frames on G M C 's were Black. Not only did I drive an Astro at one time but I also Towed ans well as worked on them from time to time . Ed Shaver
Semi Trailer Mechanic Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 What's goin' on... Uwe As mentioned already that the color is called Alpine Green. Tamiya has a color in spray can that's close to being a perfect match. At this time I can't recall the exact name. Thx for All your Comments Tonight i worked on the Dash. to make gauge Lenses i used 2 Compound Glue put on with a Toothpick it works Nice and looks like Real Glas here are some Pic,s Uwe i have One Question for the Engine: can everybody tell me the Right Color for This One??
Aaronw Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 The old Safeway trucks were great looking trucks. Growing up in Northern California near the stores headquarters they were quite common. Now they are rather bland, they just use white trucks with a Safeway logo on the door. If you have trouble finding Detroit Diesel Alpine Green, British Interior Green as used on WW2 British aircraft is a decent match, a tad lighter but close and when well weathered with dirt, grime and oil no one will be any wiser. I have a pic of a DD 8V71 in a 1971 Van Pelt fire engine that should give you an idea of what a clean DD diesel looks like and the green color. http://www.geocities.com/cnf_e32/details/motor/5241g.jpg

oldstyle Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 Hi Chris .but those Freightliner cabs will get a lot of attention before you could do some paint on it.You know what I mean YES...i Know. The Frightliner needs a lot of Work before Painting Look at This : Uwe
Old Albion Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Uwe, Glad to see you and Chris (Twist67) back into model truck building (Engineering). That dash is quite amazing to say the least. The idea of using resin compound for the glass in the dials is great. Its hard to imagine how small the plastic parts for a model truck are when you see the detail photographs. It just looks so real. Good Luck with the rest of the build. Dave Bates
oldstyle Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 THX Dave Yesterday i painted the Frame and Engine. it,s hard to find the right Engine Color in Germany, and now it,s Painted in Russian Interior Color for WW2 Airplanes next days i want to get some washings and Pastell chalks on the Frame ,and Grease on the engine to show it like a Workhorse. Uwe
SpreadAxle Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 This looks really nice. The alternator on the engine looks different. Did you make that? Anyway, fantastic job. The paintjob looks really good.
