Hi there - Looking for some quick advice on a build I am working on. I have painted the bonnet of my 300sl Merc but noticed a big black hair in the model of it. Grrr. I sanded out the hair with around 1500 grit which perhaps was a bit too much. Anyway it has left a blemish in the paint (see attached photo). I had thought it was because I went through the clear coat in that section so sprayed two coast of the primary color with a plan to the lay down some more clear coat and thus restore the "level" of the paint. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be going away - And I'm worried I spraying more will be a bit futile. Is there anyway to repair this or should I just strip and repaint?

Thanks in advance,

Stripping is going to be your best bet.

Yes, it does appear you've gone through the clear and exposed the substrate, so when you shot additional metallic color over the area, local differences in thinner absorption caused the metallic flakes to lie down differently on that spot.

Stripping will eliminate the issue.

You could possibly let the paint harden fully, clear it again, let that harden, and then shoot more color and clear...but I've always found that taking extra time and doing repairs the "hard" way (stripping) works best and takes less time in the long run.

Damn it I thought that was probably the case ?

Thanks for getting back to me so quick - very much appreciated.

I need to get my “dust management” under control it’s a constant source of frustration. I have spray booth and gently wet the area beforehand but still they get in there ?
