vamach1 Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 (edited) Working on this one along with the Prostock Mustang. The race is on to see which I finish first. I might go back and rework the rear fenders as I realize they should be enlarged a lot more than just being flared out. Edited May 21, 2022 by vamach1 Text 1
vamach1 Posted May 21, 2022 Author Posted May 21, 2022 Those rear fenders were bugging me so I sliced them out. Hopefully only some touch up paint will be needed instead of a respray. It is a race car after all so it should not look perfect. ? 1
cobraman Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 I think that was a wise move, it looks more like the actual car to me.

I think I was going based on the box art originally which of course is usually a mistake unless it is a photo of the actual car. By 73 with the major car companies losing interest in the Trans Am series the rules covering tire and wheel sizes and body modifications were less restrictive. One thing I have never seen is an AMT decal on the real car although finding pictures from the races it was entered are few and far between. Edited May 22, 2022 by vamach1 1
vamach1 Posted April 30, 2023 Author Posted April 30, 2023 (edited) I have not worked on this on for a while so it’s time to figure out a plan. Instead of using the kit engine which looks to be a 428, I’ll dig out a Boss 302 engine and add whatever extra details I can. I was unsure about which color of minilite wheels to use as pictures from difference races show white or aluminum or different for the front and rear wheels. The interior will have the roll bar and whatever leftover parts I had from the 70 T/A Mustang build. The front grille on the race car looks like it’s mesh as I’m sure they would not have used the plastic stock one with the turn signals. The front bumper was the smaller chrome sized one but could have very well been a lighter aluminum one to save weight. Edited May 1, 2023 by vamach1 Engine 2
vamach1 Posted May 3, 2023 Author Posted May 3, 2023 After test fitting the roll cage and some sanding it seems to fit pretty good. The roll cages in the AMT kit are a joke so I used the one from the MPC kit. 1
vamach1 Posted Wednesday at 09:12 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 09:12 PM (edited) I need to get back to this project. I do not want to break my record of taking a few decades to finally finish the 70 Boss 302 T/A car that i converted from the street Monogram kit. I attached that picture with an older 1/43 build and one of how the Tope car looked a few years ago, Edited yesterday at 03:49 AM by vamach1 1
Belugawrx Posted Wednesday at 09:23 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:23 PM Better late than never. It's looking good..always loved the trans am series.
Dave B Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Now, that's a build of a different TransAm car Rex. Cudos for building it, it's not the nicest looking race car!! Coming along nicely at the moment. Dave B
