Twokidsnosleep Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 (edited) Ok to set the scene: Jurassic Park where Nedry (Newman from Seinfeld) gets stuck in the rain and bails the Jeep over the side of the road in an embankment. He then proceeds to try and winch it out (weirdly as it is pulling him farther into the jungle) and gets eaten by a dinosaur, a Dilophosaurus to be precise. He loses the Barbasol can that contains the embryos he stole and was trying to sell….setting up the sequel. I totally forgot there was a diorama section in here, it is one of my favourite ways to model. ‘This is a challenge to myself to make use of my Anycubic 3D printer and make as much of a model as I can with resin printing. aAslow project as I have others on the go and have to hunt for appropriate stl files to use as I can’t design myself as of yet Edited December 4, 2022 by Twokidsnosleep Finished
Twokidsnosleep Posted May 21, 2022 Author Posted May 21, 2022 (edited) The idea started with finding this Jeep key chain stl file. I thought it would be a cool backdrop for a diorama as it is thin and has a vertical component without taking it too much horizontal space on the diorama floor Now I know it is not the same model of Jeep as in the film, but real Jeeps have round headlights and it is my model Printed a few sizes just for fun and to get a feel of different scales. It came out wavy, perhaps a failed print in many minds, but it looks great for the tire texture so I kept it as wavy print and went with it. These were super thin in the smaller scales so they started to warp as they cured. The dinosaur, jeep front and the Jurassic sign Edited May 22, 2022 by Twokidsnosleep 1
Twokidsnosleep Posted May 21, 2022 Author Posted May 21, 2022 This was cool: an stl file for the Barbasol can with the internals for embryo smugglage? I just printed the can exterior, in a couple scales to get it right. Sorry it is clear resin, but the can printing and label details are on there.
Twokidsnosleep Posted May 21, 2022 Author Posted May 21, 2022 (edited) Work on the Jeep. Printed a windshield and some headlights from clear resin. There will be rain and lots of blood inside the Jeep window. Still have the fog and overhead light bar to make. Printed out a winch for the bumper Lots of foliage printed for the jungle too. T. Rex sticking his nose in just because he can. The Dilophosaurus has Nedry’s severed arm in his mouth Edited May 21, 2022 by Twokidsnosleep 3
Steve H Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 Great idea for a diorama Scott. I really enjoy watching what people are able to print for projects now. Not sure I’m savy enough to try it. I’m along for the ride. By the way “ twokidsnosleep” absolutely cracked me up first time I read it, gave my wife a good chuckle too. Cheers, Steve 1
BuilderX Posted May 22, 2022 Posted May 22, 2022 IN the movie is a YJ Model they had square headlights from 1988 to 1995 no jeep in 96 then the TJ went back to round headlights 1997 on.

Bugatti Fan Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Tamiya made a kit of that particular Jeep that had the rectangular headlamps.

Bugatti Fan Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 I agree Scott. Some of the prices expected by some sellers on EBay border on the ridiculous. If I were looking to make a Jurassic Park Jeep and could not get the Tamiya one for a reasonable price, there are plenty of jeep kits out there where the kit could be modified to the rectagular headlamp style. After all it is virtually a flat panel where the lamps are mounted, so should not be difficult to either convert a lot part of replace with a scratch built one from plastic card. Only real problem might be the wheel style.
Twokidsnosleep Posted July 10, 2022 Author Posted July 10, 2022 I found a file for a YJ grill and lights, printing it now Will try and retro fit it over the other
Twokidsnosleep Posted July 12, 2022 Author Posted July 12, 2022 Moving forward, retrofitting the grill in. Found some clear square headlights in my parts bin too, not sure from what
Twokidsnosleep Posted July 17, 2022 Author Posted July 17, 2022 Just some lights, weathering and detail paint for the YJ backdrop Jeep facade 1
1930fordpickup Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 This looks better. Not a fan of the movie but I still like what you are doing with this. 3D printing is a great new tool for us. 1
Twokidsnosleep Posted August 1, 2022 Author Posted August 1, 2022 Getting closer to starting the base. Summer is not a high modelling time for me. I am re-orienting the components to open the diorama up, show the figures better and make the backdrop make sense 1
wrenchr Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 Not sure what scale this is in but I have a Tamiya 1/10 scale rc body. it is used but would work if that is the scale you are looking for?

Thanks Jason, that is a bit big for the diorama It is more 1/24 scale and just the front of the Jeep is in the background
Twokidsnosleep Posted October 17, 2022 Author Posted October 17, 2022 Got the sign painted up and two Barbasol cans 1
Twokidsnosleep Posted October 23, 2022 Author Posted October 23, 2022 Getting the base water done in clear silicone, adding in the pieces of the dio.
Twokidsnosleep Posted November 12, 2022 Author Posted November 12, 2022 Getting closer with this. Should finish off over Christmas break before the year end 1
Twokidsnosleep Posted December 3, 2022 Author Posted December 3, 2022 Got this Jurassic Jeep project done 1
Bugatti Fan Posted December 31, 2022 Posted December 31, 2022 In the movie Spielberg took a lot of artistic licence with the Dilophosaurus. The real thing did not have an extending fan shape on its neck. I think the inspiration may have been taken from a Frilled Lizard.

Indeed I think a lot of artistic license is brought about by palaeontologists when they infer anything about dinosaurs: soft tissues, colouration, vocalization, abilities and mobility. They only find bones and try to infer all the rest. The death of Nedry is also very different in the book vs the movie….quite a graphic end to him and the Dino is far larger than in the movie. http://jpjurassictimeperiod.blogspot.com/2011/06/preview-dennis-nedrys-death.html
Bugatti Fan Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 (edited) Paleontologists try to build up a picture of those long lost creatures by lengthy detective work, dna sampling ad other techniques rather than just artistic licence, but a certain amount of conjecture is inevitable to try and get a perspective on what creatures from millions of years ago looked like. I read Jurassic Park about 3 or 4 years before the film was made. I still have the first edition paperback that I bought. It depicts an island in a thunderstorm on the cover. It graphically described Nedry's demise as he watched his entrails being gorged whilst being eaten alive. If the movies followed Crighton's novels they would have got an adult rating. But of course the 3 original films just cobbled together bits from the books, and toned down also possibly in view of all the merchandising spin off opportunities afterwards. It is a bit ironic that Crighton named the novel Jurassic Park as most of the dinosaurs depicted lived in the Cretaceous era. Edited January 1, 2023 by Bugatti Fan
