Mike 1017 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 (edited) The first car that I can remember my dad owning was a 1959 Sport Fury. I spent hours in that car pretending to drive it. I am looking for a model of the 59 but only 58 Chrisine is available. I have looked at some 59 promos, but they are in rough shape. If I can find a 59-back bumper, could it be grafted onto the 59? The biggest challenge looks like the fins on the 59 are skinner than the 58. Maybe I will just paint Christine the same colors. Only me and a Plymouth Fury expert would know the difference. Any advice? Mike The 59 is on top Edited June 7, 2022 by Mike 1017 wrong word
moparfarmer Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 The fins on the 59 are canted forward a bit..Big difference in front end and rear end too..
espo Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 I think JoHan offered a '59 Plymouth hardtop way back when. This is something to look for anyway.
my66s55 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Is this what your looking for Micheal? This is a newer release with better plastic. There is no warping. I bought it a few years ago for the body. I made a resin casting of it for my convertible project. There is no interior but, everything is in good shape. Message me if interested.
StevenGuthmiller Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Yes, the X-EL Fury is a direct copy of the Johan '59 Fury kit/promo in styrene. It's a little easier to find than the Johan kit, and will undoubtedly be better than the acetate promo, but it did not come with an interior. You're only option for finding an interior is an original Johan. Modelhaus cast the interior in resin, but that's no longer an option. I think you'll be disappointed if you try to convert a '58 body into a '59. The only sheet metal they shared was the top and doors. Front and rear quarters were entirely different, not to mention all of the trim, grille, bumpers and tail lights that you would have to recreate. This is my X-EL '59 with the Modelhaus interior. MrObsessive Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Johan unfortunately is the ONLY company to ever get that '57-'59 Dodge/Plymouth 2 door hardtop roofline correct. Of course, we know the story about AMT's '58 Plymouth.......I can go on. That is one thing I do like about 3D printing. I happen to have a file for a '57 four door hardtop Belvedere, and while the lower body is very low poly (faceted), the roofline is 'bout perfect, and I could always separate just the roof and use that if I wanted to create a '58. I've also got a file for a '57 Dodge and while it's not bad, the roof is easily editable with a few tweaks especially at the C pillars. I have that '59 Plymouth (actually a couple of them) and yes, they're kinda tough to find, but the X-EL's like Steve mentioned are a bit easier to be had. Some are pricey though, so there's that. BTW, Steve........your '59 is absolutely GORGEOUS! ?

Steve, Your 59 is the exact same colors as my dads. Mike
