Not model car related but I’d love to get the recent 1/32 scale HKM Lancaster bomber kit. This kit is a beast with at least a 4 foot wingspan when completed. Not to mention finding a spot to display it when completed. https://www.scalehobbyist.com/catagories/Model_Aircraft/lancaster-mk-i-s-sugar/HKM00001E10/product.php?s=0&t=0&u=2&micr=194&pg=1&ppp=48&sb=stocknumber_a&so=d&era=0,6 Even at $300 is expensive for my budget.
Richard Bartrop Posted June 25, 2022 Posted June 25, 2022 Is it the most expensive model car? I imagine a hand built model of the sort Gerald Wingrove used to do would set you back at least that much, and honestly, I'd rather have one of those. There are some nice detail, but as far as subject matter goes, the Cullinan is pretty much at the bottom of my want list. As far as Rolls Royce models go, the Monogram Phantom IIs I have in my build pile will do me just fine for now. As for who deserves what, and how much is too much, that's probably a discussion that falls way outside the scope of this forum. Personally, I think if you can afford it, and you enjoy it, and you aren't hurting anyone, then that's all the justification you really need. As for what people should spend their money on, I'm sure the money that went into stuffing your basement full of several lifetimes worth of kits would have made a welcome contribution tot he local food bank. If you really think the some people have to much money, then isn't it great that there are people working hard to come up with ways like this to siphon off some of that excess wealth?
keyser Posted June 25, 2022 Posted June 25, 2022 (edited) Nope. A running 1/3 Ferrari 312PB flat 12. That I’d pay money for. Race cars not influencer bs. https://craftsmanshipmuseum.com/artisan/pierre-scerri/ Edited June 25, 2022 by keyser 2
Phirewriter Posted June 25, 2022 Posted June 25, 2022 (edited) That Ferrari is cool. As far as the most expensive, The Hot Wheels rear board Beach Bomb in Bruce Pascal's collection is valued at $175,000. He bought it some years ago for around half that if memory serves. As much as I love my Redlines if someone offered me that kind of money for one of them I'd probably let it go. Curious to see what a Windgrove build would go for if one came up for sale. One can visit the The Miniature Engineering Craftsmanship Museum website and find the profiles of many builders that I'm sure would command far more money for their work than $40k. Seems like a bunch of hype for a blah SUV regardless of make and who built it. If one had the money to spend on a replica there's a long list of both race and street cars that are far more interesting with much more historical significance. Edited June 25, 2022 by Phirewriter 1
