mrmike Posted June 26, 2022 Posted June 26, 2022 (edited) My new project is the Monogram '53 Chevy Bel Air. This kit was given to me several years ago and I have been thinking about it lately. This kit has had the body painted already and it is partially foiled by Tim Rhine of the Classic Plastic Model Club who gave me the kit. I will finish the body and will add some parts from the Monogram '53 Corvette to the engine and wheels and tires from Steve Zimmerman. The interior will be painted dark red. More Bel Air to come... Zippi Posted June 26, 2022 Posted June 26, 2022 Nice. Those Zimmerman wheels & tires are going to wake up that 53 Chevy. Looks good.
dino246gt Posted June 26, 2022 Posted June 26, 2022 That's gonna look so cool with those wheels and tires, and I love the paint and foil work, sweet 1
espo Posted June 26, 2022 Posted June 26, 2022 I agree with everyone on those wheels, they look great.

Did you recently get those wheels Michael or have them for a while. Steve Zimmerman last posted on this forum end of last year.
mrmike Posted June 27, 2022 Author Posted June 27, 2022 Thanks, guys! 2 hours ago, TransAmMike said: Did you recently get those wheels Michael or have them for a while. Steve Zimmerman last posted on this forum end of last year. I've had those wheels for several years and I wasn't sure where I was going to use them. Then I thought of this '53 Chevy and I said, "Why not!"
slusher Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 I like those wheels ? Mike, should make a sharp build!
mrmike Posted June 28, 2022 Author Posted June 28, 2022 Thanks Carl! I've completed the Chevy Stovebolt Six. I wired the engine and added the optional Corvette engine parts from the Monogram '53 Corvette. More Bel Air to come... 3
mrmike Posted July 21, 2022 Author Posted July 21, 2022 I painted the interior with Model Master Flame Red Lacquer. Now to let this gas out and flatten a bit. More Bel Air to come... 1
mrmike Posted July 24, 2022 Author Posted July 24, 2022 I worked on the chassis today and during a test fit of the body and the chassis, I discovered that the Corvette induction system I was using wouldn't fit. I pulled the induction system and the valve cover off and replaced them with the custom pieces from the kit. I also completed the dash minus the custom reverb which I will install later. More Bel Air to come... 1
KWT Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 Sucks about the induction system... but this is coming together nicely
espo Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 The side draft carbs looked good, but the three-carb setup is very impressive looking. I like seeing the old stove bolt get the attention you're giving it.
mrmike Posted July 25, 2022 Author Posted July 25, 2022 (edited) Thanks Jeremy, Steve, David and Carl! Edited July 25, 2022 by mrmike
mrmike Posted July 26, 2022 Author Posted July 26, 2022 The last two days have been spent foiling and I did such a lousy job. My foil is old and has lost a lot of its adhesive so I have been adding Metal Foil Adhesive before the foil itself. It should be simple to add, but it looks like BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH. I suppose I should break down and by some new foil from the manufacturer, but I hear of issues with that foil as well. I finished detailing the dash and now onto assembly! More Bel Air to come...
espo Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 FYI on the foil. I picked up some of the new foil at the swap & show here at the first of June. No problems with the new foil.
mrmike Posted July 27, 2022 Author Posted July 27, 2022 Thanks David! I should pick up some new foil, but I will purchase it from the manufacturer instead of some aftermarket resource. I would say that you got lucky with your purchase. I should be so lucky...
mrmike Posted July 28, 2022 Author Posted July 28, 2022 Thanks should go to Tim Rhine as he painted the body and then he decided to give me the model.
