TransAmMike Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 (edited) Anyone on here use Autoborne Sealer? I have used the silver, white and black. The silver seems a little thicker out the bottle and spays a little rough (at least when I used it). The white and black lays down very smothly. But, the black when I have used it after drying a day or so scratches off very easily. I lightly sanded the current model body then washed it with a mild solution of dishwashing liquid rinsing it off and dried it. Sprayed it with about 10% Createx reducer (as recommended) and a few drops of the Createx balancing clear that is supposed to reduce tip dry and promote adhesion.. Still easily scratches off. Just wondering about anyone elses experience with the stuff. Edited July 5, 2022 by TransAmMike Moderator please delete, duplicate post
OldNYJim Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 Yep, I use that stuff…but using it as a primer isn’t a successful endeavor. It’s my favorite black paint by far and it ends up on about every build…but for a first coat on styrene - no good in my experience.
MeatMan Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 (edited) I've used it, in fact I have several colors of it shipped to me by accident. I always thin it to at least 25% to get it to spray finely enough for me. Its a water-based product, so its not going to etch into the plastic like solvent-based paints. You need to sand the body with 600 grit prior to spraying. Have you watched Chris on any of the YT vids? Lots of good info on Createx. Edited July 5, 2022 by MeatMan
OldNYJim Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 (edited) I replied in your other thread (because this one says "Moderator please delete, duplicate post") I basically said what @MeatMan said, although I don't thin the black sealer, personally... Edited July 5, 2022 by CabDriver

Yeah Jim, seems I actually thoight I sent one post and it didn't show that it sent so sent it again worded a little differently. So you're saying you use it as a topcoat??

I sanded the body but not with that aggresive of a grit, probably was 1000.

So you're saying you use it as a topcoat?? I normally clear over about everything, so I’ll use it often as a main color coat yeah! It’s my go-to black for that…here’s a a couple showing how it looks with some clear over top: Lays down super smooth and nice, and you can lower the pressure on the airbrush to get it either completely matte or a semi-gloss if you prefer for fabrics and rubbers and underbody stuff - really versatile and easy to work with. I love the stuff…just not as a primer or sealer. Even the $2 Walmart primer is WAY better for THAT task, when shooting over Styrene. As usual, your mileage may vary… 1
