I'm usually a volkswagen or slammed on big wheels type of builder but at the moment I'm trying to build a 40s era 36 custom. I'm struggling to find the colours that would be used. For example would the be similar to the body colour or a contrasting colour? I can find plenty of pictures but the old ones are all black and white and the new ones somehow look modern even when they are supposed recreations. Would they have a different sheen to the fabric compared to modern? If you have any pics of early custom interiors please share share them, it would be a great help, thanx

Les, man, I believe around that time they would have used the burled leather for a lot of kustom interiors.......... If you'll look at Steve Boutte's IG page, about 6 posts in, he shows how he replicates the look of that material. The lead-in pic of the post is a bunch of interior parts in primer.......

You really should consider an account on IG..... There's TONS of model builders on there.

What about mohair upholstery? Wasn't that 30s, or was it earlier?

Leather was used, but colors were limited.  IIRC, leather was in brown, gray, red and dark green.
