Slotto Posted July 12, 2022 Posted July 12, 2022 (edited) I've had this kit for more than 20 years. It has been on and off the workbench too many times. I'm always experimenting with new techniques to see what works for me and what doesn't. in order to get these rear wheels up under the body requires mini tubs. I did this with my go to. Pill bottles. More on the interior later. The wheels and tires are from the Lindberg 38 Custom Ford Van kit. This is the first time I applied BMF before painting on the emblems and after paint on the trim. For the paint, I chose the cheapest can of flat black that I could find. 97 cents at Wally World. I wanted to see if I could get a decent finish. One decent coat of paint, then rub on the emblems to get the details to appear lastly one coat of polyurethane After the clear cured, on the rear deck on the left I went after the orange peel with 3k sand paper then McGuires wax. On the right side and roof I used a spent dryer sheet. Sounds silly I know. Again everything I do is an experiment. Eventually something will work out and become part of my technique. I will be going after the rest of the car with 5k and a polish, just to see what happens. I dont love it but I dont hate it. Stay Tuned... Edited July 13, 2022 by Slotto 1
Zippi Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 The the finish on the paint and the foil work is looking pretty nice. Wheels & tires look kewl. Would have liked to seen a pic of those mini tubs. 1
Slotto Posted July 13, 2022 Author Posted July 13, 2022 Thanks Zippi Like I said, this has been in and out of the box so many times...I also had many different plans for it over the years. At one point it was gonna be a drag car. Here's the hood. I carved up the interior for whatever reason just to stitch it back together for this idea. Here's the interior with the mini tubs... Slotto Posted July 13, 2022 Author Posted July 13, 2022 Like the Turbine car, this Corvette has a one piece interior. I decided to blow it apart so I can detail the door cards. The interior will be red and I plan another first for this piece. Flocking. I made the wheels posable a few years ago but I'm not thrilled with the stance. I would like to drop the front just a bit and bring in the front wheels slightly so they sit just inside the wheel cavity. Dont fret, disc brakes all around are planned. Stay Tuned... 1
Slotto Posted July 15, 2022 Author Posted July 15, 2022 (edited) I got the front steering and suspension sorted out... I ended up with 16 gauge wire nails. We use them to hang pictures around the house. Nice sturdy nail. I ended up cutting some square tube stock and I cut the heads off of 6 nails -3 for each side. The upper A arms are from an old Camaro kit -not sure where the lower arms are from. Anyway, it gets the job done. Stay Tuned... Edited July 15, 2022 by Slotto 1
bisc63 Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 Those wheels are like the classic Cragar S/S; they look good on most anything! I bought a couple of those kits just to get the wheels, although they are pretty nice kits. 1 1
Slotto Posted July 26, 2022 Author Posted July 26, 2022 Thanks gang. Not much progress lately. I did find some free time tonite to detail up the dash and door cards. the flocking material was supposed to show up today but it did not. I'll get on with the rest of the interior once it arrives. Slotto Posted August 2, 2022 Author Posted August 2, 2022 (edited) All the way from the Czech Republic... these showed up yesterday and I was so excited. I ordered them from Amazon on June 30th. I've never done flocking before but I know I need a sieve. So off to the kitchen cabinet. Luckily we had a spare tablespoon so I zipped off the bottom and glued on some window screen material and I got after it I wasn't feeling the white faces on the gauges so I made em black. again this is my first time flocking. I dont hate it. Whatcha think? Stay Tuned... Edited August 2, 2022 by Slotto 1

Slotto Posted August 5, 2022 Author Posted August 5, 2022 Thanks LL, glad you like. Doing some test fitting today I'm going with the 427 with the Weber carb setup -side mount. Gonna try to keep everything under the hood. thanks for looking
Kenmojr Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 Love the direction this 63 Sting Ray is going... Pill bottles? What a good idea. I may use this when I build one of my 1960 Corvette kits as a pro-street or I may decide to build it as pro-touring. 1
Slotto Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 Shes finally finished. Completed car can be found here. Thanks for playing along
