pack rat Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 I had this SSP Monogram '30 Model A sitting on the shelf and thought it would be fun to do a custom/rod version similar to the Blue Beetle, '30 Woody etc as Monogram might have done so back in the '60's. With very little modification the SBC from the '55 Chev/Badman fits like a glove, topped off with Little T chrome bits. Rear mags (I think) are from a Boothill Express and the rest is original Blue Beetle parts, with one or two vintage AMT pieces thrown in. Paint is Tamiya TS-10 French Blue; something Monogram might have chosen if it had issued a molded-in-color version of this kit back then. A simple, but fun build. Now the wheels are turning as I look at my old '30 Phaetons. 2
bisc63 Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Very sharp build, and yep, it captures precisely the type of thing Monogram might have offered. Well done.
Zippi Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 I just love that French Blue and white combo. Very clean looking. I just love this build. Excellent job.
Dave Van Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 VERY WELL DONE!!!! I like these 1/24 scale kits from the old Monogram. I have built a bunch of them, many in a '50's high school cars' series. Hope you don't mind but here is the same kit done as a TV car. thanks! 2
Phildaupho Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Great looking Model A. Very attractive couple with your Deuce Roadster.
Kah puts Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 Definitely one of the best Model A's I've seen, BRAVO.
larman Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 That's great! Super job of adding the right parts to make it look like the others in that series.
alan barton Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 Great minds think alike! I created a red version using exactly the same theme earlier this year. The main yet insignificant difference being that I used the '30 Woody as the donor car. I do love the blue and will have to consider this for a future model. You have really captured the Monogram spirit in your creation. Cheers Alan
Can-Con Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 Looks "period perfect". I'm sure Monogram would have done it exactly like that.
oldnslow Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 Yep , love this kit , yours is beautiful . Great minds come together , ? , 2
espo Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 Great looking paint finish. The white accents and the wide whites look era correct.
TooOld Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 What a great idea and very very well done , it definitely captures the spirit of those early Monogram kits we all love !
Rocking Rodney Rat Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 Yep! Hits all the right spots. Old school all the way! One of my favorite old kits. A kit that definitely lends itself to rodding: https://public.fotki.com/jferren/30-model-a-coupe-87b/90kujy.html -RRR
carrucha Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 Neat hotrod. Good job combining the parts from all those kits.
mrm Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 Great model. The color choice suits it well too. I have one of those kits still sealed in its box. I think I bought it online to use the fenders under the Revell new ‘30 body, but never attempted it.
Mr. Metallic Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 It's great when the early Monogram hot rod kits get some love, and you did a great job adding just the right parts. Well done.
