Remember when that was all the rage?! I seem to recall a backlash to it, later. It seemed like every second or third car was painted that color--unless it was just a regional thing. But I thought I had read some negative comments in a couple of the magazines.

Loved the color back in the day (actually still do).  I remember seeing it on everything from an early '80s Cutlass to a late C3 ('80?) Corvette, but my favorite was a Pantera I saw in this shade at a local car show.

My issue back then was the lack of a brandywine that was  readily available in hobby form, 'cuz I didn't feel ready to step up to the big leagues (HoK etc) as it seemed more like 1:1 car paint.

I'm speculating wildly here, but I'd assume any negative reaction to the paint would be from the sheer number of cars painted with it.  Think of how Car Craft magazine was often referred to as Red Blown Camaro Digest

Yes, I agree. It was the sheer numbers. It's a pretty color, for sure!

I think that Kandy Brandywine and Kandy Apple Red are iconic colors that will never go away.

Pastels {Miami Vice} and gray tweed interiors. And these wheels. Are fads that went away.

Now the "fad" color seems to be that nauseating bright green that you see on EVERYTHING these days.

It looked good on a '70 'cuda, but seriously guys.......

Please, take me back to the Brandywine days!!! ?

"Monkey see monkey do" as the old saying goes. This can be a color or some style or wheels that sit still while you're driving. I liked the Brandywine color when it first started showing up on show cars and still think it looks good. The problem is sometimes no matter how good something looks we all want it, and then we just do it to death to the point it is no longer attractive to look at.

I love that color on new cars, where they add some relief to the parade of earthy silvers, whites and darks on the streets for the past 30 years. Not so much on classics.

I welcome some of the brighter colors that we’re beginning to see on the new cars, but that green is borderline even then in my view, and has just been way over done as a custom color for old cars over the past decade or so.

Not a very appealing color to my eye in any case.

Noticing on the street the other day how Mazda is really dialing in the red radiance paint through their lineup. Not sure it's as deep as brandywine but it's rich.

I saw one like this in the market parking lot last week. Killer color and looks more like a dark Candy Apple Red, but you're right, it looks great.

Let’s not forget the Brandywine Orange color on today’s modern cars and truck. When we were in the market for a Subaru Crosstek, I wanted the cool Brandywine Yellow they had. Told the missus, I’d call it the Vomit Comet. LOL! They didn’t want to come down on the prices, so we ended up with a 2021 Honda CR-V.

She didn’t like the color on the Crosstek anyway.....

Yes, I have also been noticing the recent metallic red color on Mazda cars.  It looks really rich, especially in sunlight.  Very nice color.

Mazda isn't a brand I'm normally drawn to , but they've come up with some of the most eye-catching paint colors in memory.  Audi has also had some stunning reds in the last decade or so.

I had a girlfriend (I know, hard to believe) who referred to it as "squished bug green".

I think she hit it pretty good.

While this topic is about a color range that really hit its max popularity 40-some years ago, I'm going to circle this back to my original whine in this thread: is there a hobby-grade brandywine out there?  I really prefer enamels, but there doesn't seem to be anything like that out there.*  No HoK for me either.

* Testors "burgundy" is not a legit answer, let alone a starting point.  The faintness of its hue will remind you of a red GM cloth interior color that has been exposed to the Texas sun for an unrelenting decade.  That, of course, assumes that the nozzle even sprays and that the can hasn't leaked half a pound of clear goo from the bottom seal 10 minutes after you get it home.  But I'm not bitter...

While not the exact same shade of green, there used to be a green that was a fad and was often referred to as "Monkey Vomit Green". You would be correct; it was not meant as a compliment to the color.

I’m not sure if I’m familiar with that one, but I remember “teal green” being another fad for some time, just as pastel colors were a fad for a while.

Luckily for all of us, these fads invariably die out at some point.

I remember when they all had a version of "Dove Gray". Essentially gray primer with a shiny clear coat. LoL

I had a '79 Mercury Grand Marquis in that color.

I recall a few colors that Teal Green would be a good description and for the most part they were nice looking. The MV Green I recall was a shade that everyone seemed to be painting everything and the color just didn't last in popularity.

Would that color have been Chartreus. I guarantee that was spelled wrong.
