This project languished on the shelf for a long time because  of a warped chassis base plate.  Solving this problem is what got it off the shelf of doom. This is the 2006 Lemans winning Audi R10. Drivers were  F. Biela, E. Pirro and M Werner. Color is Tamiya TS76 Mica Silver with Krylon latex clear. I have had a lot of luck with this clear  over metallic finishes like silver and gold. The water base doesn't eat into the somewhat porous finish and change the color.  For the most out of the box build and went together fairly well after solving some initial problems.  this was a straight. More info on that in the captions.  Thanks for looking.

Finished car on its wheels.  Mopst of the red had to be sprayed and Mr Color #68 matched the decals the best.                 "

Business end of the car. Rear engine cover is removable and hides a detailed engine. It fit well initially  but when the body was installed to the chassis plate the warpage pulled the seams apart slightly. Some tiny u-shaped body clamps fixed that. DSC07717.JPG.9bdb0c6741b8434db690d02fbf8c807c.JPG

Side veiw. Instead of gluing and clamping (which is risky at best) I  opted to pin the body in place. This was done with some .018 soft steel wire and a #77 drill. I drilled 10 holes (5 on each side) through the base plate where the body attaches. Then taped the body in place to located the holes in the body. The wires were then glued into the bottom of the body. Assemling meant lining these wires back up with the holes and bending them over to hold the body in place.  Worked like a charm and fixed most of the warpage. You can't see the wires in this photo.

Top view shows most of the detail. The dark grey was all decal with clear coat.

I always enjoy seeing your models, Rich, and this one is no exception! It is a shame that there isn’t more of these cars kitted.

Truly remarkable what you able to do to fix the warpage.  What kit is it, wait I saw Revell in the tag.  Did you have to add the poseable front wheels?

John...thank you so much for the encouragement.  I like your stuff too...that Matra is going to be killer.

Gary...thanks for the compliment. I have had to use that trick on a number of projects. The more you do the easier it gets. The front wheels steered in this kit already. A lot of Revell of Germany do.

Well done, Rich. Your craftsmanship is truly admirable - all those pins and holes to straighten out or fixing warped body panels and base plates (like you did with your Peugeot 905)!

(I had this kit too, but sold it off few years ago)

Very nice!  I've built this kit, you did a wonderful job.

Thank you Bruce....did you encounter the same problem and if so how did you solve it.

Thank you Helmut for the kind words.  A lot of times a problem sits and sits and then one day you are doing something else and the solution hits you. This is one of those times.

I don't know if mine was warped as badly as yours.  It affected the engine cover but not enough for me to attempt a fix.  Yours looks much better, I may go back and try your solution.

Bruce...if you can force the cover into place then the tiny clip idea will work.  When I make the clips I make one side longer than the other.  Then drill one hole and insert the long end while squeezing the body together. Twist the clip slightly to mark the paint on the other side then drill the other hole where the mark is. Sounds easy enough until the special clip you made goes flying out of your needle nose pliers...so be careful and work in a wide open space.  Hope this helps you.

Very nice job! Built this several years ago and have another as I planned to do the other drivers but so much to do toward masking and painting and detail that it sits waiting. Really enjoy looking at your finished model.
