stitchdup Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 So how does that work you may ask, even a child can tell you thats wrong, you scream at your monitors. Well I recently got the revell street rod set with the t sedan, a delivery and 34 roadster. I'm assuming the t is the right size as the same frame is used under all of them and it was the first kit released. Since they all have the same frame it means to me the other 2 must be both undersized and having seen an a sedan next a t touring at a local show would appear to confirm it. So how in the world does 31+34=32? Well the 33 ford sedan styling wasn't new in 33, we had a ford model y released in 32 in the uk which is a shrunk down 33 sedan being a little smaller than a ford pop (anglia to you guys) and since there was a uk rodder building some pretty high tech rods on par with lil john buttera in the 70s called ray christopher I'm going to use the roadster and delivery to build a 70s style 32 y sedan. Everything will come from the 2 kits and the chassis and running gear will be box stock as it has the right stance and parts (well it should be jag irs but the vette one is already chromed and fits so its staying) Incidently, ray christopher built a gt40 replica for a guy called lee iacosomethig that you might have heard off, apparently he was big wig at ford, lol. If you get the uk magazine custom car, he has a recently featured model a pick up on the cover in yellow and brown. Heres the kits I'll be using and a pic of the 1982 riddler winner model Y The ides was put into my head after Bill posted a pic suggesting a possible transformation but also reminded me of the model Y. I'm at work now but its coming to work with me tommorow night. 1
stitchdup Posted August 29, 2022 Author Posted August 29, 2022 Got the body to a very rough shape so far tonight. I think this is going to work. I might use a roof line inspired by the baby austins instead of the model y roofline. I glued the rear door onto the body before i cut and my first cuts were to move the side window area back on the delivery body. I then cur the top corner from the body and fitted it back at a different angle as the y has much softer curvers here than the a but i think i can leave the sides. I'm going to have to add plenty bracing to the inside of the body to get the side to line up but the plastic is thinso some strips inside should do it. I'll have to reshape the rear window and redo all the trim and i have to make some doortops for the windows. It looks a bit too long just now but I'm sure once the dorrtops are made and fitted it will look better. I also had a bit of a play with the other kits from the set and now have a club cab t pick up and t roadster on a fenders. the fenders are pretty warped on the roadster but i hope to make them work
Mr. Metallic Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 Are you sure the A sedan delivery has the Buttera frame under it? I swear that's the early 60's Revell tooling You are correct about the "34" being undersized because it was designed to fit the Buttera frame. I'll be following along because this conversion is starting out pretty cool.

stitchdup Posted August 30, 2022 Author Posted August 30, 2022 I think I've goofed on my cut lines. The door edge should be much closer to the rear fender, and I think my rear windows are too long. You can see where its out in the pic of a stocker below. I could cut a thin strip out of the rear but that would take the front too far back. Since I have to add some plastic to the rear of the window to reshape it, I'll also add some to the front pillar to move it back. This will save me cutting the roof again and since i have to build front screen pillars I can make them a little thicker to move the door shuts back a little. I think I also have to chop it a little as it seems too tall but I think I'll see how it looks after the windows are shaped and open. This might end up as more of a project than originally planned as I have a nice jag irs and 3d printed rover v8 but they wont fit the fenders. I wont decide yet as the fenders are useful for holding the body in shape
stitchdup Posted August 30, 2022 Author Posted August 30, 2022 Got the roof line completed tonight. I'm using finger nail acrylic filler to reinforce the joins, and to add some thickness where I'm reshaping the body. The plastic on the kit is about half the thickness of a 1/25 kit so doing this allows me to file it down without worrying about going through the plastic. It sets as hard acrylic so its a little tougher to work with but it is very strong. You notice the body isn't all the way down on the fenders in the pics, this is because I haven't sorted the arches yet as I'll be doing them once the front of the body is connected. I would have it fitted tonight but i ran out of the nail filler and i have nothing to space the body apart with either. Well you'll have to wait for pics as my camera just went flat
stitchdup Posted September 1, 2022 Author Posted September 1, 2022 Not sure how i managed it but i deleted the pics i was going to post. Heres some more recent ones after some more work. The front is now fittd and I've started reshaping the sides to be more rounded. All the parts that aren't orange or red are the acrylic nail filler. The fenderless version might be what I end up building
