bluestringer Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 Starting this one next. Planning on going stock/custom with it. Maybe green and white paint.
Jantrix Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 A terrific kit but it seems the hemi was added as an afterthought. I couldn't figure out the mounting points for it.

I couldn't figure out the mounting points for it. That's the engine I'll be using. I mocked it up and looks like the bottom of the front cover mounts to the front cross member and there is a small tab on the rear of the trans that hooks over the trans crossmember, and that sits the trans in the right position.

Ah. I did a fair bit of lowering, It's possible I trimmed a bit off the crossmember, losing the mount point. I'll take another look at it. 2
Zippi Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 That's going to be a nice build James. I've got this kit in my stash.

I don't plan on lowering mine, but I want to try and use some different tires. 5 hours ago, Zippi said: That's going to be a nice build James. I've got this kit in my stash. Thanks Bob.
bluestringer Posted September 3, 2022 Author Posted September 3, 2022 Got the Desoto Firedome Hemi ready, just need to do some paint touchup. Got primer on the body, I'll be going with Tamiya X-28 Green. Plan on doing white accents if possible, I've always liked the paint scheme on Tim Allen's 56 model. 5
bluestringer Posted September 4, 2022 Author Posted September 4, 2022 I think this is about where I want it. I'm using tires from a 97 Mustang, they are wider and a little shorter than the stock tires. They may make the front look a little too high maybe? The rears stick out just a hair from the fenders, doesn't look too bad I don't think but I could tuck them in a little by snipping some off the metal axle. 1
bluestringer Posted September 4, 2022 Author Posted September 4, 2022 Suggestions, comments etc. all welcome. Thanks for looking. 1
bluestringer Posted September 5, 2022 Author Posted September 5, 2022 Rainy and humid today but I got the color on ok. 1

Thanks Alex. It would look better if it was lowered a bit, but I've already got most of the chassis done and painted. I think the stock tires would have made it look lower. I'm not very good at figuring out how to lower it but I will look at it to see if there is something I can do to get it down a bit.
bluestringer Posted September 10, 2022 Author Posted September 10, 2022 Slowly getting there............. 2
XYHARRY Posted September 11, 2022 Posted September 11, 2022 Hi James, try using styrene sheet to build up some lowering blocks for the rear and for the front you can channel slots into the chassis rails and the I beam axle. Or you can get resin lowered I beams. In Australia there is a website that caters to modellers called The Parts Box. They have a front axle. I hope this helps you. Cheers,David.

Already finished with this one, but I will keep those tips in mind for the next one.
David G. Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 A nice quick-n-eezy build! Well done. David G.
XYHARRY Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Nice build James. I recently used a similar colour on my 74 Roadrunner. I'll send some photos of my 53 pickup. It's from the old 80s street machine kit with the tilt front hood. I rebuilt it twice. From the box this kit was low in the front so I only had to drop the rear. I'm looking forward to seeing your next build. Cheers, David. ?? 2
David G. Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 I love the color! That blue contrasts nicely with the red on the frame. David G. 1
