Hi all;

I have a project in mind where I want to use Liberty Walk or Rocket Bunny type over fenders. But Id rather not pull apart a $50.00 Aoshima kit for them.

Does anybody know of sommeone, either casting/3D printing just the fenders?

Thank you

Jeff

@Brian - I want to put the fenders on a Studabaker.

@Bill - Yes, I could make my own but this project has so much work already, Id like to get a set and move on to the other parts of the build

Thank you for your replies

Company’s like Hobby design make resin LB Walk fenders and body kits but they are about twice the cost of buying a Aoshima kit and separating the parts you want.

The Lambo has moulded on flairs while the Aoshima 86 is better suit. You can take the flairs out and still built a really nice Toyota 86 in RHD or LHD or FRS Scion

Look through some of the 3d printers. there are multiple body kits available from them. For the studebaker something like a porsche rwb, mx5 or rx7 might be a good starting point as they are pretty rounded shapes but they will need cutting apart to make fit. There are also the smaller wheel arch fenders available in many sizes. Aoshima also do a couple of over fender sets that each have 3 different sets of fenders in. They're more for the bozzuko style cars but they might be a good starting point if you prefer to work with plastic.

There's a site from France that sells some basic fender flares in a couple sizes. I've never ordered from them so I can't speak to their service.

You could also make your own, I made these out of quarter round Plastruct.

@ Sandboarder - I have a Aoshima Liberty Walk kit and that is what started this idea. But Id rather not take the flairs out of it, so , at some point, build it as a Liberty Walk car.

@Stitchup - I tried to find Aoshima flairs but was unable to come up with anything? Do you have a link to these flairs?

@ Fat Brian - I was looking for more of the "over fender" look like the Liberty Walk cars.

@ Ace-garageguy - Thanks for the link. This is the direction I wnated to go. But your link sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole and found other flairs that I like.

Thank you all for your input. I do appreciate it

Im just saying don’t be afraid to buy a Rocket Bunny 86 and pull the flairs out. You can still build a great car from the kit without the flairs.

I really should make an effect to finish these one day. RB kit suspension with a simple 18” Aoshima wheel swap. Zero modifications, OOB.

There is at least one person on Cults3D website that offers files of flares like that, his handle is BlackBox, but you are just buying the files.  You need to have someone with a 3D printer to actually get them printed up.  I've seen a few eBay sellers offering 3D prints from this persons designs, but they are not cheap, it might be close to the same as buying a kit.

I tried checking Shapeway's marketplace to see if someone offered something like them, but didn't find anything so far.

@Sandboarder - I have actually test fitted the flairs out of the Aoshima kit that I have. That was another step in trying to do this build. And by the looks of your work, it does make a nice build up without the flares. Taking the flares out of $50.00 kit, especially when that is the look I like, makes it tuff.

@Leo64 - I did run across the Cults3D site in my search. Yea, they are expensive and I dont know any people with a 3D printer. Except maybe Shapeways.

your best bet is to search aoshima on ebay, its probably your best bet to find a set as i couldn't find them on 1999.co.jp/eng . you could also try texas_3d_customs who is a member here and does 3d printing for people

With some Evergreen and putty you can build your own kit. I used styrene strips glued to the body to widen the fenders and filled in between them with putty.

Thanks Brian. If I cant find something that I can adapt, I may go this route. I was kinda hoping to not go this way, because the amount of putty that goes into it. Just because of the risk of the putty shrinking.

Cool Mustang, by the way!

Jeff,

You might try these Fujimi sets.  They are kit plastic.  If you can't find them ley me know and we could work a trade.

My favorite is USC Icing, but the containers it comes in are way more than the average modeler will ever use, so there's a lot of waste.

But no worries, as the Bondo Professional 2-part polyester glazing putty is available at most car parts stores, in modeler-friendly sized tubes.

But BE SURE TO GET THE "PROFESSIONAL" STUFF, PART NUMBER 801, as they also make a one-part conventional lacquer putty that WILL shrink badly if used too thick, and the packaging looks similar.

All the custom bodywork on both the Z-car I posted above, and the thread below, was done with the Bondo 801.

Thanks Bill. I think, regardless of the type of fenders I end up with, putty will be involved. Ill go looking for the Bondo 801.

Thanks again
