ModelcarJR Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 (edited) I got this kit at a contest in the raffle. I painted the front end white without tape at first hoping I could get it close. But there was too much red in the white when I painted the red so I taped off a good portion of the red on the hood and front fenders and then re-painted the white. I think this will look OK once the decals are on. I'll rub it out, add the foil and then add the decals to see if they cover OK. Still haven't decided on the interior color but probably will go with a red dash, steering wheel and column and a black interior bucket as indicated in the instructions. I thought about a maroon or darker red but I don't have any at the moment. Thanks for looking! ? Edited October 12, 2022 by ModelcarJR add photos 1
ModelcarJR Posted October 14, 2022 Author Posted October 14, 2022 So I rubbed out the paint and added the foil. I wanted to add the decals before I put this one aside to paint more bodies. I failed to add a coat of clear lacquer to the decals but I don't think it would have done any good as the decals disintegrated into 100 little pieces. So I grabbed a few decals sheets with flames and made my own flame design. So here is a very tasteless presentation of "a hood in flames". 2
slusher Posted October 15, 2022 Posted October 15, 2022 It’s getting where you can’t trust decals.. paint looks great!
slusher Posted October 22, 2022 Posted October 22, 2022 How are you doing John? Are you still painting?
Zippi Posted October 22, 2022 Posted October 22, 2022 Good looking Thunderbolt. Looking good so far and those flames turned out nice.
ModelcarJR Posted October 23, 2022 Author Posted October 23, 2022 Thanks, Scott, Carl and Bob! I appreciate the comments! Carl, yes I am still painting but stopped long enough while it was raining early last week to put together a NASCAR Richard Petty Dodge Dart that is Under Glass and WIPS. I painted a 67 Chevelle today in WIPS. Thanks for looking! ?
ModelcarJR Posted December 26, 2022 Author Posted December 26, 2022 I'm back on this one, the last one that I painted earlier this fall. Finished the interior today. No gauge decals so i just dry-brushed the best I could, some aluminum paint and chrome pen. Done! Thanks for looking! 1
ModelcarJR Posted December 27, 2022 Author Posted December 27, 2022 Finished the engine today. It has plug wires but I had to tuck them in pretty tight to fit other parts and to leave room for the air ducts later. Here are a couple of pics. Thanks for looking! 1
slusher Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Really nice work John, beautiful engin and foil!
ModelcarJR Posted December 29, 2022 Author Posted December 29, 2022 Thanks, Carl! I appreciate your comment! ?
ModelcarJR Posted December 29, 2022 Author Posted December 29, 2022 The chassis is done and I have mocked it up on wheels. I am using the steel wheels in order to save the two sets of chrome wheels in this kit. I have used these wheels on other builds and they look great. They are "big and littles" but I can pair them up with the same wheels from another kit and have 4 sets of wheels, two for small tires and two for larger tires. Thanks for looking! ? 2
ModelcarJR Posted December 31, 2022 Author Posted December 31, 2022 Thanks, Carl! I appreciate your comment! This one is done. I've built it several times, but this time I had some problems. First, the windshield crept out a bit after I had the interior glued in. I took it apart to correct it and managed to crack the windshield while taking it out. Second, i couldn't get the hood to sit down. So I took the easy way out and loosened the glue joint between the radiator support and the frame, letting the body rise a bit. Now the hood fits well and I really can't tell any difference in ride height up front. I need to add the white inside the side chrome. I may also add some dog dish hubcaps but I might lose them rolling down the road at high speed! Thanks for looking!
