stavanzer Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 I just wanted to draw attention to Chris and his Youtube Channel. Chris has reviewed Hundreds of kits in the last few years, and his builds have gotten more comprehensive as time has gone on. I know that I eagerly await his videos of kit contents, as in many cases they will be the deciding factor on a purchase decision. If I don't like what I see, the box stays at the store. I cannot be the only one who uses his reviews this way. Chris has always had an accessible, friendly style, (unlike many of the more Bombastic Guys out there), and he has no need to waste 30 seconds of my time on a "Cutesy, dated Intro" like some others., I know his "Quik Built" kits annoy some, but his growing popularity shows that he knows his audience, and delivers what they want. I know at least 2 modelers who have started into the hobby and are buying (& Building) kits based mostly on Chris's example. As a Goodwill Ambassador he seems to be doing a stellar job, especially in reaching on Online Audience that does not seem to frequent forums. Good Show, Chris! 7
iamsuperdan Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 I like that his reviews paint a very accurate picture of what a kit is in terms of parts, potential issues, and how it builds up. But his choice of background music is terrible. ? 1
KWT Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 I've been watching his videos for years. Watch all I can.. even rewatch.. I love em
1972coronet Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 I, too, enjoy Chris's videos thoroughly. I've learnt some techniques by watching his builds -- things I'd never think of. Certainly, I wish that he'd dress down some of the parting lines & adjoining seam lines, but that's not his M.O. (and he states that it's not). He's receptive to constructive comments and enquiries on his YouTube channel as well -- I'd enquired about the fitment of the interior panels of the AMT 1968 El Camino SS-396, for instance, and he'd replied in kind. I didn't address me enquiry in an ad hominem manner, which goes a long way in receiving a positive reply.
stavanzer Posted October 18, 2022 Author Posted October 18, 2022 Re: Background Music. Try to find inoffensive, non-copyrighted Music? Now, try to find enough to fill 2/3 hours a week, every week for a year.....
BlackSheep214 Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 Meh.... I’ve watched a few of his videos. They’re ok. I’ve seen some of his completed builds where the tires don’t line up correct to the wheel wells or the stance seems off, not a fan of seeing him use silver markers for window trims, too much time watching him build and paint, etc... I usually mute it and see the sprue shots then skip through his builds/painting processes. Gets boring after awhile since it’s always the same build & painting process and the same engine color, the tranny in silver, etc... Each to his own I suppose.
larman Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 (edited) I agree that his videos are useful and they absolutely help me make decisions on if I will buy the kit or not. I think that is the whole point. He doesn't pretend to be a master builder. The kits are built quickly and if you have been at this for a while, like most of us have, you can look past the flaws. Just because he doesn't clean up mold lines doesn't mean I won't and he uses different paint and techniques than I do, but I get a really solid feel for the kit when he is done. This is especially great when it is a kit I am not familiar with. Sometimes it is nice just to see if a common kit has upgraded tires, decals or parts that you didn't know it had. Yeah he's stated plenty of times he doesn't try to build perfectly or anything considering all the kits and reviews he does. I really just watch to see what kit content looks like, and the ones he reviews are always really good. Of course I'll buy the same kit and have more flash than you can flick a finger at lol. His methods might not be the best, but he still puts out good looking models even better than half the mess i see posted on hobbylinc lol.
Roncla Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 I've always found his videos to be an excellent source for seeing what's in the box and how it assembles. The state of his spray booth and filter usually raises my eye.
bluenote Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 I find his videos a breath of fresh air! No airbrush, no aftermarket parts, etc. He builds like most of us did when we started this hobby, and I kinda like that. Most Youtubers today airbrush EVERYTHING, using 2k clears, automotive grade paints, etc. It's nice to see someone just using rattlecans, no polishing, handbrushing a lot of stuff, etc. 4
Mike C. Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 I have bought more than 1 kit for the parts alone based on his videos.
bobthehobbyguy Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 He definitely provides a great resource for seeing what's in a kit. Besides showing what's in the box the buildups help to see the whole picture.
slusher Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 I watch his videos time to time. Great information on what’s in the box and something I have not built before. I enjoy his channel..
carrucha Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 I really enjoy Chris' youtube channel. His videos are a great resource in terms of kit content and building tips. I don't look down on this building techniques due to the amount of kits he has to build in a short amount of time. I appreciate his positive and friendly demeanor. 1
Street Rod Posted October 24, 2022 Posted October 24, 2022 I watch his videos a lot to see what’s in the kits as well as the fact that he always points out any fitment issues that a kit may have. Also enjoy the new kits videos to see what’s coming up. 1
Mattilacken Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 I cant agree more. Best kit reviews online that i have found. I dont have patience for most and i even fast forward his allot but they are for sure good! An other good thing to se whats in the box is old 1999.co.jp/eng and https://www.super-hobby.co.uk which make good shots of all the sprue trees and instructions. 1

I’ve watched a few of his unboxing videos to see what’s in the box. If I like what I see I purchase said kit. And I agree with what most have said he does represent what is in the box. man’s a start to finish in one viewing appeals to most of the general audience. So I’d say he’s doing it right. 1
