This is building into a killer street rod, your work is truly inspirational.  You were talking about bobbing the rear fenders.  I think if you cut them even with the bottom of the body that would look about right.  Keep those updates coming.

Thanks Rick. I think I’ve reconsidered bobbing them for now. I’ll have to search more pictures before I finalize the bodywork.

This build is a great bunch of Me learning as You go. Nice tutorial. Project looks great. Gonna be a Killa. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for lookin’ Dan.?

All the suspension and body work is looking Great Greg.  That 3-Window Street Machine you found online has a nice color and setup.  Is that the color your going for?

You know Bob…I haven’t even thought about colors yet. That is one thing for some reason that I have a really hard time deciding on.? That one does look great though.

This is true plastic surgery... wow...

Thanks Bob!?

Sorry for the lack of progress on this one fellas. I just work on it when I am frustrated with other projects. I’ll get back to it soon though.?

Well a couple of other kits have me stymied so I’ve been trying to get some issues ironed out with this one. I’ve finally cobbled together some inner and outer rims that will work with the tires that I want to use (second pic). I also nixed the Hemi and am going with a Boss 429. It’s from the Polar Lights Torino and isn’t really a great version. So I rebuilt it. I used the Chrysler Hemi exhaust manifolds, but corrected the outlet spacing and modified them to link up with my already installed exhaust system. I detailed the valve covers a bit and scratch built a new oil pan. I was debating putting a blower on it, but decided on a custom injection system instead. I was going to use the Weber carbs from an AMT Corvette, but after a short search on here, I realized AMT pulled a fast one and gave us side draft carbs instead of downdraft?…so custom fi system it is!?

Looks awesome!... Where did the injector tubes come from if you don't mind me asking????....?

Thanks! I made them from 3/32” aluminum tubing. Here’s a link to the thread where I got the idea.

I’ve been playing around with the front end now. I lengthened the grill shell back to stockish height since I need to move it out in front of the crossmember and lower it anyways and added some mounting pegs. That meant I either had to eliminate the hood or lengthen it…so I lengthened it. Now the hood hid the injector stacks too much, so I made some longer ones and cut some slots in the hood for clearance. Thanks for lookin’.?

I’ve been trying to get the body work done. I moved the headlight mounting bar ahead of the grill, but decided to mount them to the radiator shell instead.

IMG_3041.thumb.jpeg.b391bbeefc0f2fb6a5ed59a258b7ae71.jpeg

mixed up a few tiny batches of Milliput to fill gouges and blend the new trim to look more like a stamped in molding than something that was glued or welded on.

Also carved in some reliefs for window glass and made patterns for them from tape and applied them to some .010” clear sheet. I’ll trim them to size later.IMG_3124.thumb.jpeg.77a0bd90b75818402ba3c10b4d4d40c6.jpeg

Sanded out the ejection pin marks on the headliner, even though it really can’t be seen.?

And  I’ve been filling and sanding and filling and sanding the tubbed fenders to get them looking presentable. Jeez…I thought they looked good until I saw this photo.? Oh well, time for some more sanding and primer.?

Well, the original designers for the 65 roadster made those Webers to be side draft because it was a different intake setup, similar to the Grand Sport Vettes. But when they redesigned the kit the repurposed the now incorrect side draft Webers into the downdraft intake

By the way, your build is freaking RAD!

Nice work. I like the motor, the overall proportions of the body, headlight mounts, and the rear rolled pan and exhaust, just to name a few things.

awesome build you have going. but, them tools are pretty sweet as well. the carving tool peaked my interest.

Thanks. It’s a piece of coat hanger sharpened to a chisel point, bent and chucked in my pin vise.

I got the disc brakes mounted to the wheels, and the wheels mounted to the axles.IMG_3150.thumb.jpeg.92bb998428312d91f310fa3c6f0aa248.jpeg

I re-made the door hinges and drilled them for side mirrors. Then made a couple of mirrors from sprue and .015” wire.

I’ve been busy trying to tidy up the body and chassis in preparation for paint. Got rid of the screws that were temporarily holding things together and replaced them with permanent plugs. I pity anyone who gets one of my models and tries to disassemble it.?

Amazing progress. This is a killer build. I never liked the Revell rear crossmember, but you got it to work. I usually make my own.

On a few cars, I have bonded in 0-80 nuts or used some brass inserts, used screws (allen head) to do the final assembly and be able to fit check things along the way.

Got some color on the interior. Now I have to paint the outside of the tunnel and floorboard before I can assemble it. I was hoping to get some color on the body too…but every time I look at it I find more flaws.?

Nice work so far! You have some great ideas. That exhaust is perfect. It's cool how mounting the mirrors to the door hinge gave the hinge some purpose opposed to just being there. Nice touch.
