I remember as a teenager being shocked at the work he put into modifying the body, it was already finished as it was in my eyes... Will keep looking for follow-up articles... 1

Thans When you read about Lill John's construction as an adult 45 years later, you realise how incredibly ahead of his time he was. You also see the impact he (and the few peers) has have on premium car design.

I'm currently finishing a Bonneville car, but a fantasy scratchbuilt creation: an Allison powered VW van streamliner (!), if you can believe it. Should be posted on this site within about 5 or 6 weeks, once completed. Then, who knows? Happy new year to you. Long live the Salt! CT

ea0863 Posted January 6, 2023 Author Posted January 6, 2023 (edited) HRM April 2002 had a small blurb on the upcoming Pontiac Solstice. Interestingly, this car was built on the GM Kappa platform, and shares lineage with a diverse group of family members: Saturn Sky Opel GT Daewoo G2X turbo Tauro Sport Auto V8 As well as a host of concepts: Breckland Beira V8 Saab Sonnet Saab Aero X Chevy Nomad (I think this would have been so cool!) Saturn Curve Vauxhall VX Lightning I have not found any scale models of the Kappa platform to date, although Maisto did make 1:24 and 1:18 scale diecasts. Edited January 6, 2023 by ea0863

ea0863 Posted January 6, 2023 Author Posted January 6, 2023 Here was a little shout-out to Deco Rides on their fiberglass body. HRM June 2002 Interesting how the company came about, and equally interesting how this body style came to be. DecoRides.com is still kicking, as is their sister site DelahayeUSA.com Both sites have fascinating projects that are inspiring for builders of all scales: Bugnotti Boattail (the website gives Chip Foose credit for the initial design) Purple Zephyr ("Scrape" clone of course) Lockhart Boattail Speedster Deco Liner and Scoot Bella Figura Coupe Matching Boat and Car

As I was looking over the last of the 2002 issues of HRM, I came to the realization that Frankenstude never got an article when it was revealed. Custom Rodder had done a reveal in March '98, and Rod & Custom followed suit in August '99, but nothing from Hot Rod Magazine. This was interesting, since HRM had been following the design and build of the car since its inception in 1991. I can only assume that that the decision was made to shuttle it to Petersen sister publication R&C for internal reasons. BTW; as I have been going through HRM and doing a little research here and there, I have found myself quite enamored by Rod & Custom magazine! Perhaps someone more in the know can elaborate as to how this publication came about, and how Petersen differentiated between the sister publications. In the meantime though, for anyone looking to get inspired to do a build, I couldn't think of a much more inspiring car! One of the perks of living in a car town is that the actual car resides right in my neighborhood!
ea0863 Posted January 7, 2023 Author Posted January 7, 2023 Yet another cool car in an advertisement. ea0863 Posted January 8, 2023 Author Posted January 8, 2023 The 2000's were heralding a new trend; that of the old hot rods being reinvented for the second (or even the third) time. Here, a '40 Chevy Master Deluxe got a two-part article in March and April 2002.
ea0863 Posted January 8, 2023 Author Posted January 8, 2023 If the Cadillac Northstar V8 was a great engine, does that mean its V16 big brother was twice as great? I personally think so!
