Mercedes Benz 1937 W125 

Surprise!  Welly has released a 1937 W125 in 1/24 scale and it is cheap.  It popped up on the Bay and I quickly ordered one not because it fits in my collection but because I want Welly to see there is interest in this pre-WW II racing Mercedes.

 

I am still in disbelief!

Looks remarkably good, but with some better wheels and a few other tweaks, it could be beautiful.

Nice model, Gary - though the grille looks to be printed black on to the nose - unfortunately it seems not to be available in Europe. Ebay shows only American sellers -

but price and shipping would be about 50 to 60 € + customs and taxes which would sum up to 80 € .

Yes, the grille is printed on the nose.

Here is a response from William DePooter in Belgium which leads me to think there is a licensing issue with Mercedes for Euro sales.

"Funny thing is I cannot find it in Welly's catalog (though I DID find a vendor offering it indeed), but Mercedes-Benz themselves have it in their model car range.
Might mean there is more to come - at least Mercedes-wise :-)"

It may be part of the F1 cars Quattroruote collection, those are EU only perhaps? They did the 159 Alfetta, the W125/163 fit.

Don't think so - F 1 started in 1950 (world championship).

GP. I’m not as catholic about my semantics. Many types of Grands Prix. Only top tier are F1 equivalent. Alfonse Hisso (why this never modeled??‍♂️), Pugs, pre-T35’s, W125/163,C/D AU’s amongst many others were highly engineered mission specific race cars. 
For brevity F1, but duly chastised. ??

I’d rather have root canal than discuss evolution of sanctioning bodies and national auto clubs (see ACO) but pm me  ?
