Arkgene Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 does anyone know if they ever made a model of the 1968 Chrysler 300 4dr hardtop?

Bucky Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 The '68 300 convertible was also available in kit form. It came in the flat box issue. 1

Are you sure about that? I've never seen a '68 convertible kit box. All of the convertibles that I've ever seen were promos, or at the minimum, built models. Somebody have a picture of the convertible box? Edit: Never mind, I found one. Must be pretty rare in kit form. Steve Edited December 22, 2022 by StevenGuthmiller
keyser Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 The 67-8 300 cvts were rare even new. I got a 67 coupe new, tried that and following year for convert, no joy. Always liked 67 rear, and 68 hidden HL front. 68 ht reissued around Oldies period, and 68 convert promo at same time.
Bucky Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 I have a couple of the hardtop kits, from the Oldies series. I've been trying to find an affordable convertible kit for quite a number of years. They do pop up now and then, but usually go beyond my bank account.

And a retired fellow Ford executive and good friend with a 1/1 collection of about 12 vintage cars also wishes that Mother Mopar had done this for the 1968 model year. I dream of building one just that way (in scale), but also with the '66 300 and '67/'68 Fury fastback roof, and with the planned but cancelled mildly detuned 426 Hemi Tri-Power (yes, there was a Chrysler product planning product letter on this as a follow on to the planned but cancelled '66 300M Street Hemi.) I also used the same fastback roof on my scale project recreating the planned but cancelled 1966 Monaco 500 Street Hemi, which was at one point proposed to use this same roof as well....TB Edited December 24, 2022 by tim boyd 1

Didn't the Johan '66 Fury include parts and decals to build a (phantom) S&M Hemi S/S version? Tom Hoover wanted for the Street Hemi to have either a big single four barrel or the Six Barrel [et al.] induction, but corporate said no. **CORRECTION/AMENDMENT** Here's the box art for the '66 Fury (see image). I've only seen it one other time, many years ago -- the red-white-blue paint scheme is what me memory think, Sox & Martin. Apparently my recollection is correct. T To further your point, the MPC 1965 Dodge Custom 880 convertible kit also included a 426 Hemi engine option. It was identical (same tooling masters) to the AMT (nee MPC) 1965 Coronet 500 engine, except for omitting the blower upgrade parts. 1
keyser Posted December 24, 2022 Posted December 24, 2022 Glad I’m not alone with these ideas. The Imperials and 300’s had interesting HL/TL for ages. The 67-8 Imperial rear ends were decent, but noses conventional. Hidden HL would have set them apart in 67-8. I have habit of putting Hemis in all the big bodies.
