Plowboy Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 (edited) I finally finished this one up a few days ago. But, it's been so cold here, that I wasn't able or willing to take outside photos. This model has been a journey for sure! I started it back in October of '21. Worked on it for bit. Let it languish for bit. But, I finally made it! This is what I started with. This was an original promo that I got from ebay years ago. The body is all I ended up using. Everything except the engine came from the AMT '60 Starliner. The engine is from the Revell Mustang Super Stallion. The only modification I made to the chassis and floorpan was lowering the suspension, making the pan and frame a bit shorter at the rear and raising the rear wheel tubs 3mms. A set of 19" and 23" Pegasus Hellas painted with Tamiya Gun Metal finished the chassis (not installed in photo). The exhaust from the headers to the mufflers are from a Revell Mustang Mach III. The tailpipes were made from .100 styrene rod with the ends drilled out. The interior was modified to fit the Galaxie body and painted with Dupli Color Bahama Blue. The dash got modified to represent a digital dash. On the body, I cut the hood and trunk loose. Then added the structure to the trunk and hinged it. The fender ornaments as well as the scripts, badges and lower trim were eliminated. I cut the wide trim down to a single strip. I also had to mount the package tray to the body to have something to mount the trunk hinge. The grille was opened, headlights drilled out and replaced with lenses. The body was then painted with Tamiya Haze Gray with three coats of Tamiya Clear sanded and polished. I'll admit that I was a little reserved about my color choice. But, now that it's all together, I'm really happy with it! The only modification I made to the engine was making the air intake pipes shorter where they mount to the throttle body and adding the filter boxes from a Revell Mustang Mach III. I used the radiator and electric fans from an MPC '85 Corvette along with the master cylinder and booster. It really fills up the engine bay! Thanx for checking it out! Phildaupho Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 (edited) This may be the ultimate 62 Galaxie 500. Very well conceived and built. My parents bought a brand new beige 62 Galaxie 500 which I have to admit I thought was the most uncool car I could be seen in when I got my license 3 years later. I was relived when my dad bought a new 67 Mustang to replace it. Edited December 29, 2022 by Phildaupho 1
Leica007 Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 Really well built and detailed from a promo. I especially appreciate your explaining the detailing you did, it helps others to build better. Thanks. 1
Andy Oldenburg Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 Very well executed build, perfectly done? I like the upgrading you did by reducing the trim, the engine bay is very clean and the customized engine fits perfect to the body. 1
70 Sting Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 Wow, that is gorgeous. Every modification you made is perfection. ?? 1

espo Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 Enjoyed following the evolution of this build. All the finishes look great, and I like the lower line side trim. The engine and chassis are the most impressive to me. 1

bogger44 Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 So glad you got this one to the finish line Roger, I know it's been a long time coming! That grille is a piece of artwork, and cleaning up the side trim really worked well. Superb work all around. Man, would I love to rip through the gears on this one! 1
AMT68 Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 Very highly detailed build that's been done extremely clean. The finish on the air intake looks very impressive as does the trunk pan. 1
Robberbaron Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 Very impressive work, as usual! While following your build, I wasn't sure about that co!or choice, but I think the gunmetal on the wheels really ties it all together. I also keep looking at that grill - I wouldn't have had the courage to open it up like that. Super clean work! 1
TarheelRick Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 Beautiful Galaxie. Color is subdued just enough, nothing garish. Got just the right stance also. One quality build. 1
Koellefornia Kid Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 Stunning build! Imo 1962 somehow is a boring year for Galaxies but you made it look cool! Love what's going on under the hood! 1
catpack68 Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 Very nice work Roger! The colors, stance and engine choice are perfect? 1

I think a car like this would be a nice family cruiser. Like you, I'd have to give it a good rip every once in a while too.
Spottedlaurel Posted December 31, 2022 Posted December 31, 2022 Inspirational! So clean and subtle, but purposeful - excellent work Roger! 1
TimKustom Posted December 31, 2022 Posted December 31, 2022 Like everything about this build, especially the grille and the engine. Job well done. 1
