Moebius 1956 Chrysler 300B Mild Custom

Well, here's my first post of a finished model on this forum. It's the Moebius Models 1956 Chrysler 300B. I was quite taken with Sean Svendsen's boxart on this one and wanted to build mine with a few of the touches I saw in his illustration. Lower stance, wider wire wheels and what I saw as a darker metallic red finish.

The front was dropped with modified spindles and the rear with adjusted leaf springs. I mounted my own 3D printed wire wheels and 2 piece whitewall tires with the kit spinners. Body colour is Tamiya Mica Red lacquer over black Mr Color Surfacer 1500. I modified the front bumper to remove the licence plate indent and then all of the kit chrome was stripped and repainted with Alclad Chrome. Exhaust pipes were made from aluminum tube.

The body was not modified but did require some tricky cleanup around the rear of the roof and some rescribing around the headlights. All the trim was done with Bare Metal Foil. I shaved the molded-in wipers off of the cowl but haven't sourced suitable replacements yet, would also like to find a decent side mirror. Might have to print them myself I guess.

The lower half of the engine was built mostly stock with a custom designed and printed supercharger set-up. I modelled the intake after the stock piece but with a cold-air intake system that runs in front of the radiator. Belt drive, radiator, battery, air filters and distributor were all 3D printed as well.

This was my first Moebius kit and I was pretty happy with it overall, some nice detail and pretty easy assembly. My only nitpicks were headlight lenses that were too cloudy, red painted taillights that I stripped and repainted to remove sprue marks and the Chrysler decal on the front that was a completely different size and shape to the molding on the body. Small stuff, really.

Well Martin . . . I agree with Steve Milberry, that your photos instantly led me to believe that I was looking at a 1:1 motor car.

This is an exceptional build, and you should be very proud of what you have achieved. Moebius kits are a dream to assemble, but you have gone the extra mile with this one. Having built a Moebius Hudson Hornet myself, there is something in me that would like to build a Chrysler 300B.

Well done with your 3D printed parts also . . . I guarantee that you would thoroughly enjoy building the 1953 Hudson Hornet . . . I know I did.

Hello Martin !!  What a beautiful build. Your builds are so cleanly put together, it is hard to tell they are models. Of course you capture them with amazing photography too. The gold under the hood looks spectacular with the body colour. Awesome to have you on the forum sir. Hopefully see you at a local get together soon.  Now let’s see that matte green Jag!!

Cheers, Steve
