Don't know how I missed this one until now. Great looking model! Yes, Tamiya kits are the best and so are their paints. The only complaint I have is there is usually so much detail that ends up being covered up when you're done but that's not really a complaint. Just an observation. I've learned to not detail every bit of suspension or drivetrain by looking ahead and see if it will be covered. Still enjoy all the perfect parts though.

I look forward to more of your race car models.

Yup, same thing happened to me when I put a lot of effort on fixing apparent joints around turbos & ducts only to find out they're not visible in the end.

Generally I like race cars from the 60's or earlier in part because the mechanical bits are less "wrapped" by body work

Pierre  -  Please don't tell me that you brush painted yellow ...

and got this finish ...

Yes I did...but it was quite the challenge. Flat yellow with a bit of mica added to give it a bit of pop. My mistake was in mixing up a light yellow primer underneath. Wherever I got primer cut throughs in prep showed through the base color because of the very low hiding power. I worked my way through...and learned a few things...

Interesting. I never thought about coloring the primer. I guess I'll just stick to white. But I am going to try to get it to flow better so I don't have to sand it. I don't think I have been thinning my Vallejo primer enough and this primer doesn't take well to sanding or polishing.

I must have been busy building to miss this one!  Great job on this Pierre, I love the Pennzoil livery.  You can't go wrong with a combination if yellow and black.  Tony is right, with modern super cars and race cars, much of the suspension is covered and doesn't need to be painted or detailed.  I love Tamiya kits for their level of detail and great parts fit.

Thanks Jim. Your's with end of race weathering is superb. I don't have the skills to do that well enough.

I love the GT1 but I find modern race cars (post 1990...) liveries to be so elaborate that you lose the car a bit so I decided to go to the classic Pennzoil livery. A good match to the GT1 lines I think.
