Silvercreeker Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 Finished this last month. Loved this kit as a kid when it first came out. Now I have the time, patience and skill to have a nice shelf display. Stripped all the toy chrome, and used Green Stuff World airbrush chrome. Love that paint. Had a hard time finding good pics of the WW1 Fokker motor. The real 1:1 car ran a Pontiac 6 cylinder. Fun build and always gets extra attention when people see it in the case. 9
Joe Nunes Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 Looks great! I really like this model and would certainly enjoy building another one. Well done! ? Joe
shoopdog Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 (edited) Love your take on this build! Sure would like to see it released again as my teenage build of it fell victim to bb gun or firecrackers! Edited January 13, 2023 by shoopdog

Nice job! I forget where I read it several years back, but the reason the 1:1 had a Pontiac is because it was built after the model kit came out, and the airplane engine that Tom Daniel put in his kit design would have been way bigger in scale than it is depicted in the model. Or something to that effect. 1
Dragline Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 Great build of a kit sorely needing a reish. When was the last time? Decades at this point.
James2 Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 Lovely clean build and a classic childhood memory!

He said that the engine for the kit was the WW1 plane motor the model company already had tooled 1
doorsovdoon Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 Cool! I had a Hotwheels die-cast of this when I was kid, same colour if I remember right.
Speedpro Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 Very Nice! Built one long ago. Seeing this makes me want to build another one. Love the paint color and the engine details. Well done!
Street Rod Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 Great job on this kit! I like the extra plumbing details you did on the engine. I have one of these in my stash that I plan to build very soon, hopefully it turns out as good as yours.
David G. Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 Likely the best built version of this kit that I've seen, Well Done! David G.
Lucius Molchany Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 Nice job!looks like polished aluminum!
TonyK Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 Yep, loved this model as a kid too and built it again as an adult but you really took it to the next level. Great job!
alan barton Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 (edited) One of the best I've ever seen! I love the effect of the Green Stuff chrome. It looks very similar to the finish on the real car in the American Museum of Speed in Lincoln Nebraska. I took these photos when I visited there in 2017. I currently have one of these on my bench and will try to replicate the real car - that was a replica of the model! I have the Pontiac six cylinder engine but may have to fatten it up a bit. The biggest challenge will be recreating the headers on the left hand side - right now I have no idea how I'm going to do this! I did find the helmet on an old Matchbox car - a cartoonish VW with a German pilot! Thanks for the inspiration! Cheers Alan Edited January 16, 2023 by alan barton 1
