Stocks05 Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 Hi, new to the forum & thought I'd post a picture or two of my ol' Sunny King Ford. Built this model back in '98 & a friend forced me to enter my first & only model show. I was taught the old way of detailing from my dad which he learned from reading AutoWorld magazines from the 60s. Hoping to learn some new tips & tricks here.. 5

Joe Nunes Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 Not laughing! Congratulations on your 1st Place win with this very nice model. ? Joe
'70 Grande Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 That is an outstanding build and that trophy confirms it! Welcome to the forum!
Stocks05 Posted February 6, 2023 Author Posted February 6, 2023 Thanks for the replies, the clear is starting to turn yellow after all these years but I guess it still looks ok.
Johnny Canuck Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Yer dad was a good reader and influence on you. Nice build.
TooOld Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Excellent looking race car Blake , your detailing looks spot on to me and congrats on the win first time out ! I learned the same way as your Dad and still use many of those old ways when building my own models , I'm sure he's very proud of you !
Tcoat Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Your beautiful build and the resulting award shows that those "old" methods still work. There is much to be said for all the "new" techniques but the old ones works for many years and still have great results.
Lowlife ! ! Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Great job Blake ! For a first model it looks terrific, oh and welcome to the forum !
TarheelRick Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Excellent build, very deserving of the award. Much the same, except I was not "forced", but the first show I entered I won first place with a short track modified. Noticed your award came from SJAFB. I spent 2 1/2 years there in the mid 70's, one of my more enjoyable assignments.
lucky 130 Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 I remember "Rick" from another forum, his work is always well done and well thought out . Glad to see you here.
Andrew McD Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 (edited) Very nice work and congrats on the well deserved award. One of the things about this forum is people won't laugh at you. There is a wide range of model builders here, from those that can build museum worthy masterpieces to those of us still struggling to make a decent job of an out of the box build. It's a community of people enjoying a hobby and are very supportive in promoting the hobby and helping others. Looking forward to see what your next project might be. Having said that, there are a number of people here with a great sense of humor! Edited February 6, 2023 by Andrew McD additional comment
iamsuperdan Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Looks pretty darn good to me! This is a safe place, no one will laugh at you here.
Bbo1974 Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 No laughing here, that is a very nice build (and not an easy car to build)! Its fun to look back and see your work from that long ago. I just shake my head at some of the things I did, but I wouldn't think of scrapping those cars and building new ones. Its almost like looking back at the cars you have owned.
MarkJ Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Blake, I tried hard to find something to laugh about but all I saw was something to enjoy looking at. Excellent build. Welcome to the forum and hope to see any new builds you want to do in the wip forum.
happy grumpy Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Truly impressive. Nice to see your father influenced you into the hobby. First place on your first show, nothing to laugh about, but every reason to proud. That would certainly bring a smile.
spencer1984 Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 Looks good! The Sunny King Ford was one of my early kits as well, so I've always had a soft spot for it.
David G. Posted February 10, 2023 Posted February 10, 2023 Congratulations on a well-deserved trophy. It's an excellent build. Here's hoping to see more of your work here in the future. David G.
DanR Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 We should never laugh at someone else's work. This is a perfectly fine build, but we've all seen a few here and there that were... well... not so great. Laughing at the builder will just discourage them. My early builds were garbage and in pre-internet days, all I could do was aspire to builds like the ones I saw in the magazines, and I would take tips from people at hobby shops or shows. With the internet, we need to support each other and share our knowledge. If we want the hobby to thrive, we need to build everyone up, not tear them down. I would have loved to have had a forum back then where I could get immediate feedback and advice.
