Hi, new to the forum & thought I'd post a picture or two of my ol' Sunny King Ford. Built this model back in '98 & a friend forced me to enter my first & only model show. I was taught the old way of detailing from my dad which he learned from reading AutoWorld magazines from the 60s. 20230205_161822.thumb.jpg.7b8ebae3b76bf2accc7216283347919f.jpg20230205_160206.thumb.jpg.d8337f69f9a8bdbaa71969e562f602f7.jpg20230205_160315.thumb.jpg.e9df770cbaed5aa1413218c260a3675c.jpg

Excellent looking race car Blake , your detailing looks spot on to me and congrats on the win first time out !  I learned the same way as your Dad and still use many of those old ways when building my own models , I'm sure he's very proud of you !

Your beautiful build and the resulting award shows that those "old" methods still work. There is much to be said for all the "new" techniques but the old ones works for many years and still have great results.

Excellent build, very deserving of the award.  Much the same, except I was not "forced", but the first show I entered I won first place with a short track modified.  Noticed your award came from SJAFB.  I spent 2 1/2 years there in the mid 70's, one of my more enjoyable assignments.

Very nice work and congrats on the well deserved award.  One of the things about this forum is people won't laugh at you.  There is a  wide range of model builders here, from those that can build museum worthy masterpieces to those of us still struggling to make a decent job of an out of the box build.  It's a community of people enjoying a hobby and are very supportive in promoting the hobby and helping others.  Looking forward to see what your next project might be.

Having said that, there are a number of people here with a great sense of humor!

No laughing here, that is a very nice build (and not an easy car to build)!  Its fun to look back and see your work from that long ago.  I just shake my head at some of the things I did, but I wouldn't think of scrapping those cars and building new ones.

Its almost like looking back at the cars you have owned.

Blake, I tried hard to find something to laugh about but all I saw was something to enjoy looking at. Excellent build. Welcome to the forum and hope to see any new builds you want to do in the wip forum.

Truly impressive. Nice to see your father influenced you into the hobby. First place on your first show, nothing to laugh about, but every reason to proud. That would certainly bring a smile.

We should never laugh at someone else's work. This is a perfectly fine build, but we've all seen a few here and there that were... well... not so great. Laughing at the builder will just discourage them. My early builds were garbage and in pre-internet days, all I could do was aspire to builds like the ones I saw in the magazines, and I would take tips from people at hobby shops or shows. With the internet, we need to support each other and share our knowledge. If we want the hobby to thrive, we need to build everyone up, not tear them down. I would have loved to have had a forum back then where I could get immediate feedback and advice.
