TooOld Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 (edited) Even though I grew up in the 60's and watched the television show I've never had much interest in building this kit , but I like nice tires and when I saw the blue line Goodyears in this latest reissue I decided to give it a try . It's a very basic kit , typical of these types from the 60's . The only real issue I found was that out of the box the tires aren't centered in the body openings , so I spent the time to correct this by relocating the axles . At the same time I widened the front track 3/16" and narrowed the rear track the same 3/16" so the tires fill the openings correctly , or at least better than they did . So here's my Monkeemobile , built out of the box except for aftermarket decals and some polished aluminum tailpipes . I also added my own 6.5 Litre and Dean Jeffries badges , they're a bit larger than I planned but I still think they look okay . Paint is Tamiya TS-8 Italian Red and Krylon Ivory . Thanks for looking ! All comments welcome . Edited February 8, 2023 by TooOld 4 1
stavanzer Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 Laser Sharp Build. Sanitary as the Old Rodders would have said. Great Work!
michelle Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 Nice job surprised they did not do figures of the monkees to go with it
1972coronet Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 Perfect replica with precise workmanship. I'd built the c.1989 Blueprinter issue a couple of years ago. I swapped a pair of parts box wider MPC Bluestreak tyres from one of their 80's kits. World of difference. Your paint and colour choices are righteous. Keep up the great work! (I hope that Round releases those awesome tyres in an 8 pack.)
drodg Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 Looks great and I assume those tires did not come with the kit? Best build I think I have seen on one.

Or at least in another kit with better parts that can be used elsewhere . 1

70 Sting Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 They should put your build on the next box art release. :^)

Joe Nunes Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 Nice build! Used to watch those guys on TV and still enjoy listening to their music. Sad that only one of the group is still with us today. Well done! ? Joe
peteski Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 Very nice build! The nice tires are in fact included in this kit. We have been recently discussing this reissue in I'm used to seeing the top and interior in light tan, but with up to possibly 9 versions of the Monkeemobile, there might have been some with white top and interior. What bugs me (through not fault of yours) is that the logo on the door is too large. In all the photos I ever seen (and variations of the logo) it is always small enough to fully fit on the door. You mentioned custom decals. Who makes/sell those?
happy grumpy Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 Great looking replica. The repair you did makes the difference. I ran in a similar issue when I built the 69 torino cobra.

I don't like the white top (I think Barris did that) or the dark tan so I tried an Ivory color , maybe could be a little darker . Don't know why MPC made the decals so large back then , seems it could have been corrected sometime over the years . The ones I used were from Speedway Decals .
David G. Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 You've put together a great solid looking build. The wheel adjustments you made go a long way toward improving the overall visual appearance of the finished model, well done! David G.
espo Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 Great looking finishes and looks better than the box art.

I'm sure the turned metallic gold looks really good, but it seems that even Speedway still made them too large (as they extend pass the door to the rear quarters). Again, not that you could do anything about that.

Mr. Metallic Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 Very clean build, as always from your bench. I'm like you, I don't have much use for this quirky car on my shelf, so i really hope (like others) that they offer these tires in a parts pack.

Tommy made the prototype set for my monkeemobile.
Hmann68 Posted February 10, 2023 Posted February 10, 2023 Nice work! I was born a couple years after the show ended, but my buddy’s and I are fan’s because we saw all of the re runs a hundred times in 70s and 80s.
slusher Posted February 10, 2023 Posted February 10, 2023 Beautiful and clean build!! Your models are always excellent!
