casassa Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 Since the Testors Model Master paint line has gone away, what do you guys use on Pontiac engines? Has anyone used Duplicolor DE1616? JIM
StevenGuthmiller Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 I’ve mixed my own in the past, but MCW carries all kinds of engine enamels in little 1/2 oz jars, premixed and ready to air brush. This example was a custom mix. Steve 3
Exotics_Builder Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 MCW or Scale Finishes. Although I still have a little of the Testor Pontiac Engine Blue 66-70 left that I airbrush as needed.
Mike C. Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 You used to get that right off the shelf at most auto parts stores. Probably not anymore with the demise of Pontiac.
rrb124@sbcglobal.net Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 I have an 8 oz rattle can of Dupli-Color Perfect Match "Duplicate's Original Honda Colors." BHA 0905 Avignon Blue Metallic (B26M) I'm a huge, longtime Pontiac fan. It does a good job of representing a 1966 and up Pontiac engine factory color. Since it's automotive, I would use a good primer and do the spoon test. I also have a 1/2 oz of Model Master Enamel bottle labeled as "Pontiac Engine Blue Metallic. The number on the label is 2728. It's a perfect match. Hope this helps you in your search Good luck!
Rodent Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 I have used their Chevrolet orange over Tamiya pink primer and was quite happy with it. It covered nicely in a light coat without obscuring detail. You might want to give it a shot if you don't have or don't want to use an airbrush. That said, all colors (colours) may not behave the same.
roadhawg Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 When it comes to Pontiac Blue, there's no definitive answer, Pontiac used several shades of blue over the years. Generally speaking, however, Duplicolor DE 1616 is good for '66 through '70 engines, that's what I used on my '67. Duplicolor DE 1610 is a good match for earlier engines, '59-'65. 1

Joe No, I really can't. It was some time ago, and just a "one off" thing. I just mixed until the color looked about right. Steve 1
roadhawg Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 Here you go. I knew I had this guide somewhere, just couldn’t remember where. A list of all Pontiac engine colors by year and where to find the paint……. http://www.pontiacpower.org/enginecolor.htm 3
casassa Posted February 17, 2023 Author Posted February 17, 2023 Thanks Tommy, that's a great resource. JIM
bluenote Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 I wonder if a good option would be to buy tamiya metallic blue in the bottle (x-13), and lighten it or darken it as needed.
