65slotcar Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 1 of 2 Ford J cars and we all know what happened to the second one. Cobra Experience Martinez CA. 1
Dave Van Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 I picked up a mint MPC kit last year......Love that car. The MPC version has the pickle fork front end option unlike the IMC version. Thx
89AKurt Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 I built the IMC kit. If one wanted to be accurate, it would take a ton of work. Thanks for posting this pictures.
Gramps46 Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 I have 2 J Cars in the pipeline. A 1/25 MPC (formerly clear body) and a modified 1/24 Strombecker slot body. Thanks for posting some inspiration. 1
65slotcar Posted February 20, 2023 Author Posted February 20, 2023 i have the MPC kit and a mini exotic kit. maybe with the 2 i can make something decent. the pickle fork looks so much better. like most race cars, i am amazed at how small they are when you see them in person. 1
Bainford Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 Nice pics, thanks for posting. I have a nice, clean built up of the MPC J car that I hope to tackle some day. I'll save your pics for reference.
vamach1 Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 (edited) Here’s some inspiration. The MPC kit straight out of the box except for the taillights that I borrowed from the 69 Shelby Mustang and I think I cut some vents in the roof. I brought this build to the first Philly NNL show and it was photographed for the SAE contest issue and I think the only reason it made it in print was you almost never see one displayed at a show due to the kits rareity. I built the IMC one also but that kits body just looks too short. Edited February 23, 2023 by vamach1 1
Gramps46 Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 Nicely done Rex and thanks for posting the pictures. I literally had the one I am working on in my hand when your posting came in. 1
Bainford Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Nice J Car, Rex. Beautiful. I didn’t realise the kits were released in both pickle fork nose and conventional nose. Mine is not the pickle fork version. I thought I read once that the MPC kits were available in both clear body and white. Is yours white body? This is one I got a few years ago in a box of built 60s & 70s kits. Instructions and decals too, though the decals are looking a little spotty. 8 hours ago, vamach1 said: Here’s some inspiration. The later MKIV kit shares a lot of parts with the J-Car version and was molded in white or red.
Bainford Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Cheers Rex. I didn't realise both front ends were provided in the kit.
Dave Ambrose Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 Great car, great kit build, and interesting display of the real one. I wonder if the molds still exist? Oddly enough, I used to work in the building where that museum is located.
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 Photos much appreciated, as I recently acquired examples of both early and late J-car kits. A note: the J-car was a rapidly evolving work in progress, and there are many more differences between early and late cars than just the nose.
