Snake45 Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 Stopped at HL Monday to pick up some needed paint. Specifically needed White Lightning spray (white pearl lacquer) and also either Flaming Orange or Fiery Orange, I never can remember which but I wanted the darker one. Anyway, only can in the White Lighning slot had a metallic orange cap on it, so I passed. Went over to the metallic orange slot, one can there, too, same orange top but now I'm wary and want to see which one it is. Took me a minute but I finally found the name on the label--White Lightning! So I checked the can in the White Lightning slot (with the orange top) and it ALSO said White Lightning! I was feeling lucky and figgered I could eventually use either orange on something, so I bought them both. Just tested--at least one of them IS in fact White Lightning, so I lucked out. Anyway, the moral of the story is, if buying Testor spray cans (especially at Hobby Lobby), double-check the label and don't automatically trust the plastic cap color. 1 2
Joe Nunes Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 Thanks for sharing the heads up with us. ? Joe
Oldriginal86 Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 My Hobby Lobby wraps packing tape around the cap and can so no one tests the color on the shelf. If the tape is broken then I don’t buy it.

sfhess Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 Here you would have to chase down an employee who happens to have the key to the locked cabinet the spray paint is kept in, then select the cans you want to purchase. The employee will take them to the check stand, where you have to ask the checker to chase down the cans that were brought up.

I am not fond of Testors overall, so the juice is not worth the squeeze at Hobby Lobby. They act like the 60-something me is going to tag their store before I get to the checkout counter. 1
Joe Nunes Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Guess I should consider myself very lucky to be able to, at nearly 73 years of age, pick out my spray paint choice from the local HL display and hand carry the paint to the checkout so I can pay for the merchandise. If I had to have a HL employee physically handle those spray paint cans to the checkout so that I could then make the purchase, I would be asking the employee to put the potential purchase items back on the shelves...all of the items I would have bought at the time. ? mchook Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 I bought this can of Testors paint the other day from HL. When I used it on the hood of this truck it was a large flake yellowish gold. A nice color but not what I wanted or anything what the cap looks like. As you can see, the hood is back to plastic.☹
