39 Chevy Delivery - WIP

Recommended Posts

The weather outside is too damp and windy this weekend for me to got to next step on anything I've got started... so what could I possibly do? Yep... let's start another...

I've always wanted to build this kit.. and the 39 Coupe counterpart... so when the announcement of this release and the decals included in this issue, it was a nobrainer.

Last night I tore it open to start getting ready.

The only mold lines present to the naked eye are down the back corners and right under the windshield... Got those sanded down then started working on fitment.

It's hard to tell from the below photo, but I've put a small piece of plastic on the back door frame. This will make sure the door doesn't go too far in.

I'm about 95% sure I'm gonna glue the door shut anyway, so this will help aid that also.

Here I took the engine components and mocked them up to see what I wanted to do with it..

I may add a bracket to the alternator, but honestly since the hood will be closed after it's finished who knows.

Got the frame, axles and radiator glued together. I plan on painting it as a whole unit and pick out some of the details afterwards.

The interior is probably going to be mostly body color since you're not going to be able to see much of it anyway, but I decided for a quick mock up to brain storm it regardless.

And got the barrels all glued together...

I'm not sure how to handle these... I may paint them black, then gradually dry brush lighter colors to get a more realistic look. I have used this technique on bed floors in the past.

That was it last night...

This morning.... Let's mock it all up..

Yeah, I'm gonna like this I'm sure.

Stay tuned...

odd thing happened... This morning I sprayed the primer on the body and left it to dry. Piddled with something else, came back to check and it was flashing off flat. Sprayed some other items came back to find the primer had bubbled up.

Anyway... I'll sand it.. wash it... and start from scratch... thank goodness it wasn't the color coat.

That's a bummer but at least it wasn't the final clear coat.

Well thanks to some decent weather this week... and a couple shorter than normal work days... I actually got to spray some color on this.

The body is Tamiya Champagne Gold (TS75) and Testors Extreme Root Beer

paint3.jpg.1f4564b7c771481de86019aa96663f2c.jpg

Decided to try a couple different approaches this go round...

The engine was primed in black and then shot with Tamiya Metallic Orange (TS92)

I'm guessing I may have put too much orange on, cuz it didn't end up shading any like I had hoped.. oh well, we'll try it again some time...

Shot the wheels with Tamiya Flat Clear followed by their black panel liner

The frame is shot with Tamiya Nato Black (TS63)

Still have to pick out the details.. maybe... I really like this though, so I'll definitely be picking up some more...

So that's where we stand. Glad to have finally gotten some stuff sprayed. Now maybe I can get something put together... Stay tuned...

Much appreciated guys..

I haven't taken a photo yet, but I got the firewall sprayed today with the Champagne Gold...

Hoping to start picking out all the details here and there. It's been too long since I got anything done.

Thanks John. Much appreciated.

Finally made a little more progress on this the last couple days...

Got the engine completed to my liking this go round..

and mounted to the chassis

Got a few of the random decals on as well

wltires.jpg.b86308ab503572770cad58c9a9895557.jpg

I'm out of practice with the white letter decals... but they came out better in the end than when I started.

I guess that'll do it for this weekend.

Stay tuned...

DO IT!

Not a lot of progress to report on this. I used the decent weather this weekend to catch up on yard work and knock out some other paint jobs.

But I did get the barrels done...

The show up a little darker in the photo.. but I'm pleased with how they turned out.

Stay tuned....
