Been pretty busy lately so I’m not getting much bench time.  Sundays are pretty much it if I’m lucky enough to get that much.  But I wanted to do a quick mock up after paint to make sure I still like the direction this project is going and more importantly make sure I don’t see any major issues before I tackle the bmf on the body.  Just ignore the dust!?

Gotta say, stripping the blue and going with this green.  I’m really glad I did it.  The blue is an awesome color, and I plan to use at some point on something else.  But I wasn’t feeling it on this particular project after I saw it painted.

Very minor update.  I put together the rims and tires yesterday.  Sanded the treads and put a little black wash around the lug nuts.  I was never big on the four hole slots but I think they’ll look good on this project.

There’s been a little other progress too, but nothing major.  Chassis is basically together, not that there is much to begin with.  I’m debating doing some very light weathering.  The main hold up for completion now is that I’m waiting for some new scalpel blades to try out on the bmf.

The Pintera has been stalled for about a month now while I was waiting for new scalpel blades to use on the window trim.  I got them a week ago and I’ve been working up the nerve to take a sharp object near my paint job.?. Hoping to tackle that this weekend.

In the meantime, I worked on the side exhaust pipes.  Not super happy with the results so far.  I’m thinking of stripping them and trying out some finger nail chrome powder.  I’ve been wanting to check that stuff out for a while now anyway.
If I don’t get the results I want with that, I’m considering getting some 3/16 aluminum tubing, making new pipes, and polishing them.  One step at a time though.

Here’s what state they’re in currently.

Wow am I a slacker.  I was really rolling with this build in spring and early summer, but haven’t touched it since July!  Raise your hand if you completely forgot about this build.   One, two, three…. Yup, me too!

This is a bad time to start back up on it, with my daughter coming home for the holidays, and one definite , possibly two group builds about to start, so no guarantees it won’t go right back onto the back burner.  But while waiting on paint and glue to dry, I grabbed it and decided to tackle these side pipes.
As you can see, I stripped the last attempt at chrome and resprayed them with a black base coat.  I’m going to try the nail gel and powder on them, but I needed to figure out how to mount them first.  Pinning them should work.  So the pipes have been drilled and .047 rod was glued in.
Matching holes will be drilled into the floor pan once the cement cures.  That should just about do it!

Like the smooth body and paint work. The Ansen style wheels look good on this as well.

Thanks guys!

Pinning the side pipes worked out really well.  I’m happy with that.  Now I need to figure out how to make a decent pipe to connect it all to the engine.

I’m open to suggestions if anybody has any…

Bend some solder or aluminum welding wire?  I would just connect the one side and leave the other side as a dummy.

In addition to Bill's suggestion, I'm working on some headers for a Baja Buggy build and found some soft easily bendable wire in a few different colors including black in the jewelry area at a local JoAnns Fabric store.  I think something on that order could be found in almost any store that caters to people that due jewelry. I have also found bulk wire at the Home Depot that has a solid copper center with a black covering in various diameters. Look at what they call "Door Bell Wire".
