atomicholiday Posted June 6, 2023 Author Posted June 6, 2023 Time to get back on this one. I’m starting to rub out the finish and I just finished the hood. More to come.
David G. Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 Wow! No stock Pinto ever came out of the factory with a shine like that. Gorgeous paint work! David G. 1
atomicholiday Posted June 11, 2023 Author Posted June 11, 2023 Been pretty busy lately so I’m not getting much bench time. Sundays are pretty much it if I’m lucky enough to get that much. But I wanted to do a quick mock up after paint to make sure I still like the direction this project is going and more importantly make sure I don’t see any major issues before I tackle the bmf on the body. Just ignore the dust!? Gotta say, stripping the blue and going with this green. I’m really glad I did it. The blue is an awesome color, and I plan to use at some point on something else. But I wasn’t feeling it on this particular project after I saw it painted. 2
David G. Posted June 12, 2023 Posted June 12, 2023 The paint looks great and I agree with you on the color swap. The green suits it much better. David G.
atomicholiday Posted July 5, 2023 Author Posted July 5, 2023 Very minor update. I put together the rims and tires yesterday. Sanded the treads and put a little black wash around the lug nuts. I was never big on the four hole slots but I think they’ll look good on this project. There’s been a little other progress too, but nothing major. Chassis is basically together, not that there is much to begin with. I’m debating doing some very light weathering. The main hold up for completion now is that I’m waiting for some new scalpel blades to try out on the bmf. 2 1
atomicholiday Posted July 14, 2023 Author Posted July 14, 2023 The Pintera has been stalled for about a month now while I was waiting for new scalpel blades to use on the window trim. I got them a week ago and I’ve been working up the nerve to take a sharp object near my paint job.?. Hoping to tackle that this weekend. In the meantime, I worked on the side exhaust pipes. Not super happy with the results so far. I’m thinking of stripping them and trying out some finger nail chrome powder. I’ve been wanting to check that stuff out for a while now anyway. If I don’t get the results I want with that, I’m considering getting some 3/16 aluminum tubing, making new pipes, and polishing them. One step at a time though. Here’s what state they’re in currently. 1
atomicholiday Posted December 17, 2023 Author Posted December 17, 2023 Wow am I a slacker. I was really rolling with this build in spring and early summer, but haven’t touched it since July! Raise your hand if you completely forgot about this build. One, two, three…. Yup, me too! This is a bad time to start back up on it, with my daughter coming home for the holidays, and one definite , possibly two group builds about to start, so no guarantees it won’t go right back onto the back burner. But while waiting on paint and glue to dry, I grabbed it and decided to tackle these side pipes. As you can see, I stripped the last attempt at chrome and resprayed them with a black base coat. I’m going to try the nail gel and powder on them, but I needed to figure out how to mount them first. Pinning them should work. So the pipes have been drilled and .047 rod was glued in. Matching holes will be drilled into the floor pan once the cement cures. That should just about do it!
atomicholiday Posted December 17, 2023 Author Posted December 17, 2023 And here there are mocked up. Now I need to get some chrome on them. 2
slusher Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 Going to be a beautiful model when you finish it. 1
espo Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 Like the smooth body and paint work. The Ansen style wheels look good on this as well. 1

I would just connect the one side and leave the other side as a dummy. 1

In addition to Bill's suggestion, I'm working on some headers for a Baja Buggy build and found some soft easily bendable wire in a few different colors including black in the jewelry area at a local JoAnns Fabric store. I think something on that order could be found in almost any store that caters to people that due jewelry. I have also found bulk wire at the Home Depot that has a solid copper center with a black covering in various diameters. Look at what they call "Door Bell Wire".
