majel Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Does anyone know of a source for scale engine turned aluminum or an easy way to replicate if? I'm getting ready to start a 1/16 scale FED that has an engine turned aluminum cowl. Maybe even a decal?
Aaronw Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 If you have a Dremel or similar and a lot of patience you could scale down the technique in this video
TooOld Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 I bought these decals from Speedway Decals , the pattern measures 7" x 2-3/16" and the circles are approximately 5/64" diameter . I think it was $8 or $10 plus postage . 1 1
majel Posted March 12, 2023 Author Posted March 12, 2023 Thank you guys for the replies and suggestions. I think I'll try the decals and see how they look.
jaymcminn Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 I've been playing with the MFH embossed foil. It's nice stuff, but it has its limitations. It's thicker than BMF with very strong adhesive. It doesn't like too much burnishing, which will cause the pattern to disappear. It's going to get used for something, I just haven't figured it out yet!
Xingu Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 When I was racing R/C cars in the 90's, I would make my own. I would use an electric eraser with a soft eraser. It was a bit tedious though when doing large sections. I was also doing this on actual aluminum blocks and not on foil. 1
espo Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 I have noticed some decal and dry transfer type materials at Hobby Lobby in the model section. They seem to be part of the wooden car materials.
