moparmike619 Posted March 18, 2023 Posted March 18, 2023 I really enjoy collecting obscure vehicles that you don’t see everyday (AMCs, Malaise era cars, etc.) so this ‘80 Volare was a no-brainer for me. The kit engine is so horrendously inaccurate, I decided to rob the 5.7 Hemi from the 2005 Chrysler 300 kit and make a street sleeper out of it. The 300 gave up its rolling stock as well, and the rest of the kit is box stock. The 727 automatic was removed from the kit-blob V6 and mated to the Hemi. Paint is Duplicolor from a can in GM Crimson Red (also known as Long Beach Red on newer Corvettes.) Trim was done with a Molotow pen. I took the pics before completing the door handles, rear side markers and rear/vent window trim. Went together fairly easily for all the horror stories I’ve read on this kit. The bumpers required the most work. 7
thatz4u Posted March 18, 2023 Posted March 18, 2023 Mike, with that Hemi it really is a Fuzz Duster.....well done 1
XYHARRY Posted March 18, 2023 Posted March 18, 2023 Nice one Mike. That beast is the definition of what a sleeper is. Well done. Cheers, David. ?? 1
AMT68 Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 That turned out great. I'm as much a fan of the mid and late 70's cars as anyone. I don't think of them so much as malaise era since I like the styling. 1
Mopar2 Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 Wow...She came out very nice...I really like the newer Hemi conversion... 1
Koellefornia Kid Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 Love it! Great paint job and the Chrysler 300 parts look like they belong there! You made a boring car look really cool! 1
stavanzer Posted March 20, 2023 Posted March 20, 2023 Wonderful Engine Swap! Makes a great "Street Sleeper" 1
happy grumpy Posted March 20, 2023 Posted March 20, 2023 I too like these unloved oddballs of the 80's. I am building a Horizon TC3. The idea of a sleeper is right on. Thanks for sharing. 1
moparmike619 Posted August 27, 2023 Author Posted August 27, 2023 Thank you! It was a very fun build, my expectations were low after some of the reviews I saw but it was a more enjoyable kit than I hoped.
