Fabrux Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Dating from 1964 and originally designed with input from Darryl Starbird, follow along as I recount the story of this kit family. https://www.sprue.xyz/articles/monogram40fordpickup 1 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Another of my favorite kits. Sure wish I had a few of the original issue.
1972coronet Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 (edited) Thanks much for that article. Certainly I'm not alone in wishing/hoping that the tooling would be restored to its 1964 origins . The only error I'd noticed in the article was in reference to the 1985 ad seq. tyres: the fronts were indeed Michelin 390 mm (dating to the 1979 Mustang kits), while the rears were (technically still are, even in absence of name-branding ) Good Year Radial GTs (common in Monogram's Muscle Car kits from c.1981-present). Last time I built one was in 1985, 1986 (high school). I glued the doors shut after fighting with those hinges -- I'd imagine that original editions' hinges were just fine, but after 20 years of production... [ EDIT ] RE: The Michelin tyres: I was referring to the 390 mm wheels of the 1979-1984 Mustang, not the size of the tyres in 1:1. Edited April 4, 2023 by 1972coronet CLAIRIFICATION
Fabrux Posted April 4, 2023 Author Posted April 4, 2023 Thanks for the correction! The pictures I've found don't show the different tires well and my '11 reissue is currently packed away off-site and I wasn't able to check the contents. 1
Can-Con Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 Chris, the Lemon Crate wheels weren't shared with the '55 panel. They were similar but not the same. The panel wheels were 8 bolt while the crate wheels were 5 and the spoke shape it different. I think the crate wheels might be unique to that kit.

I asked Ed Sexton that very question several years ago at NNL Milwaukee - according to him, it's not going to happen. Too bad, those T-bird wire wheels alone were little jewels. 1
Fabrux Posted April 4, 2023 Author Posted April 4, 2023 Thanks for the update, Steve! @ChrisBcritterI wonder if Atlantis has this tooling now? ?
68shortfleet Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 One of my favorite kits. Wish we would see a couple of the original tool parts come back, like the Deluxe dash.

I wonder why it wouldn't be possible to pop in the tires and wire wheels from the Revellogram 1/24th scale Deuce Roadster that had its origins in the L'il Deuce copy of the 1/8th scale Big Deuce kit.
