jjsipes Posted April 5, 2023 Posted April 5, 2023 Can the Tamiya PS paint line be used over their TS paint line? I have a model molded in Red plastic and want to paint it a lighter Blue Metallic. Thinking about the Silver paint to block the Red bleed through. So, my question is, can the PS paint line be sprayed over the TS paint line?
1972coronet Posted April 5, 2023 Posted April 5, 2023 AFAIK, the PS is a 'hot' paint, which means it'll likely ruin polystyrene. I'm not sure of its compatibility - or lack thereof - with the TS paints.
Shark Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 If the PS you are referring to is the paint for the clear RC bodies, I primed my body with spray automotive primer before using it. Goes on very dull like basecoats. I let it gas out a few days and cleared it.

So, my question is, can the PS paint line be sprayed over the TS paint line? There is a specific answer to this. CAN you use it? Yes, you can, but you need to make sure your parts are primered with a good primer like Tamiya or Mr Hobby Surfacer. SHOULD you use it? No, not in my opinion. Paints for R/C bodies like the PS line from Tamiya dry very flat and very porous. And they cure flexible which will increase your chances of the paint coming off. Plus due to the flat porous nature of the PS paint finish, it will require extra layers of clearcoat to make glossy. Final answer. Yes you can use it, but there are so many reasons not to. Just find the same color in the TS line. 1
