I’m going there on business in two weeks (training for water heater troubleshooting).

I would like to visit a hood hobby shop while there. A couple of good restaurants, too. Maybe try some Nashville Hot Chicken at its home.

Family Hobbies is your best bet. They are about 25-30 min. south east of downtown in Smyrna TN. Manly a RC store they have a room in the back for us kit guys. Good amount of kits,Tamiya paint, full evergreen tree, and other misc. goodies  Philip's toy mart south west of town in Belle Meade sold kits and supplies, but it's been a couple years since I was there, and they needed a good restocking back then so call first. Then between them is Hudson's classic hobbies IIRC  It's a hole in the wall hobby store-ish shop. Might not go out of my way to go there, but if your in the area it's worth a quick look, and you'll want to make it quick. (Cats)I haven't been there lately either so things might have changed. We have hobby lobbies all around the area. Can't really help with food. I don't go out much, and there are so many new restaurants popping up all over. Heck I never heard of Nashville Hot chicken until KFC did their commercial, and now it's everywhere. A quick note for you guys in east TN . Cookeville raceway and hobbies just steps away for TN tech campus.

It doesn’t sound good. It’s about the same in Austin. My new Local Hobby Shop Is an hour away. I always buy from them unless it’s something they can’t get. I like being able to walk into a shop with a good selection and knowledgeable staff. There’s value in that, IMHO. That’s why I pay a little bit more than mail order.

Thanks for the answers.

Oh yeah- I also saw KFC’s commercials for Nashville Hot Chicken. I tried it and didn’t care for it. Same for another local restaurant. It was crispy chicken with dry cayenne pepper on it. Didn’t care for that, either. I’m a foodie and I listen to several food podcasts. The story of NHC was on one. Back in the 1930’s, a guy with a chicken restaurant was cheating on his girlfriend. She found out and made him a chicken dinner that was so spicy it would teach him a lesson. He loved it and made loads of money selling it. It’s a business trip but I’ll make it a foodie destination. I’m a plumber and several of us are going for training on water heaters.

the worst food i have ever had the misfortune to be served as from a diner in nashville in 2020. I dont know what it was called but it was across the road from the nascar cafe/race rock (cant remember which) My burger and fries were served in a bowl of disgusting greasy water. It was worse than my mothers boiled mutton (or rope boiled in stock cube as i call it)

Family Hobbies is your best shot. Phillip's doesn't carry model stuff anymore and Hudson's is permanently closed.

As fas as hot chicken goes, hit up Prince's or Helen's Hot Chicken.
