When this is displayed, only the volume can be changed. Please help. The radio stations are boring in the Austin area. I need to play music from my phone. I have called a couple of dealerships and they are stumped.

Dumb question: Did the button on the left get accidentally pushed? What happens when you push the one on the right (with the musical note?)

We have had a couple of Fords with Sync. Holding down the power button and the Fast Forward >>| reboots it.

I don't know anything about the basic system in your van though. I assume Dan will be along in a bit to save the day....

Craftsman 16 oz. Ball Pein Hammer

That's the first thing my mind goes to whenever I see any message/touch screen in a vehicle. My work vehicle was a 2012 Transient Van; I loved it about 97.6% of the time... then some asinine message would appear where the speedometre usually calls home ! T.P.M.S. (a false-positive 99% of the time), oil change, weather in Wuhan, etc., etc.
I'd just install a business card or Post-It over the visually-intrusive message "warning", and keep my eyes on the analogue speedo/tach.

Nothing happens with either button. I’ll try the reboot idea. After I posted the OP, I called Ford Motor Company. They couldn’t help. This annoys the *•#% out of me.

What's at the bottom of that page? Have you scrolled down to see what's down there?

It doesn’t scroll down or go to another page. No link.

It's possible that the pushbutton input died. Not really in a place that it would suffer from Pepsi Syndrome though. Not sure that your system will reboot like a Sync 3, but it is worth a try.

Well thanks for the vote of confidence!

My first thought was just to press the tune/ok button. That works like an enter button.

And if that didn't work, the reboot would have been my next suggestion. :)

We've seen a few with that system that require it. Somewhat common.

What are the specs on your van?

I don’t know the specs. It belongs to my employer. It’s a high roof van with a long wheelbase (I don’t know if it is offered in different lengths, but it’s LWB compared to other work vans I have driven). The color is nice; a dark metallic blue that is no longer offered. The newer vans in the fleet are a bit lighter.

I tried the reboot. It worked.

I didn't mean to make light of your problem with the hammer photo, but really...what does it tell you that you called dealerships and Ford and nobody had a clue?

I wasn’t offended, just frustrated with the issue. I drive around by myself and work by myself. It’s boring even with something to listen to. When the only choice is Austin radio stations…?

I’m not sure what it says when Ford dealers and Ford Motor Company can’t help with a Ford vehicle problem. I guess it means customer service after a sale is not a priority. I think it also means I’ll be keeping my 2002 Toyota 4Runner and 1987 Mercedes-Benz 190E.

I'd try to find a local tuning shop that does stereo builds. They would be more likely to have a way to get rid or bypass the ford radio as thats their business. Or find who the ford radio supplier is and contact them through their help desk,

From a dealer perspective, these electronics are a serious pain in the butt.

A lot of the time, it's that old joke. Have you tried turning it off an on again?

Seriously. Computers. Ugh.

Most times, dealers will not try to diagnose an issue over the phone. Too many backyard mechanics that will try something themselves, but will get clear instructions wrong, and then they're at the dealer complaining that someone told them the wrong info. Now it's the dealer's word against theirs.

Quite often, diagnosing a problem requires the vehicle be plugged into the Ford computer system. Without the VIN or the van, it can be tough. On the Transits for example, there are 5 different head unit options, and 4 of them look the same. If its a company van, how would the driver know which was ordered? Then factor in some of the options that are tied into that radio. Navigation, 360 degree cameras, satellite radio, bluetooth, backup cameras, park sensors, climate control, heated seats...plus all of the set up for vehicle features. Now which one of those is causing the issue?

I really, really like the tech, and think most of it is great. But when off warranty, modern cars scare me.

As such, I'm quite happy with my old Tahoe or my old K1500.

Can you get one of those MP3 players that plugs into the truck's power port/cigarette lighter and plays through an unused frequency on the radio? That and a thumb drive for your tunes and you're all set.

The same as walking into best buy and asking questions about a 5- to 7-year-old computer. Blank stares, maybe if that was last year's stuff, anything older we are not sure how it works.  Tech moves to fast to be in cars, but we have it anyway.

I drove a Transit high roof van rental over the last week from Penske.  First time I'd driven a Transit, different feel and interior than the Chevy Express/GMC Vandura vans I've driven.  Wasn't bad...would make a neat camper van.

Even that basic system should be able to stream music over Bluetooth from a mobile device (I ASSume that is what Lee was doing), or accommodate a USB drive with stored music/podcasts.

Certainly I'm not alone here; I can do without 99% of those "features". I'm fine with backup assist camera (just one), the rest are poodle options.

I enjoy what I call the foo foo features, but am happy without most of them.

As long as a vehicle has good headlights, a good stereo, AC, and heated seats, I'm pretty happy.

And yes, I understand the irony of saying the above, and then actually owning a car that has ALL the foo foo features and electronic wizardry!

I've gotten used to driving vehicles w/ all the mod cons as the Brits say (modern conveniences).... power everything, heated seats, heated wheel, bluetooth, remote locking, satnav, Sirius XM,  backup camera, push button start, etc.

Driving my oldies once in a while is a shock... crank windows, manual seats, opening doors w/ a key,  etc..
