Slotto Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Finally this one is off the bench! I'm rather pleased with this one considering all the trouble I had with her. The paint is my own brew of metallic ruby and a little gloss black both craft acrylics. Mixed at 2:1 with IPA shot at 20psi. I foiled all the emblems before I painted the car then wiped the paint away with alcohol. The clear coat is Duplicolor automotive clear - 3 coats. I blew the interior bucket apart so i could detail the door cards. The simulated wood trim is contact paper with a wood grain pattern i picked up at the dollar store. I had to add articulating front wheels. It's a pet peeve of mine. The wheels and tires are Pegasus. The disc brakes are flat washers and the calipers are scrap styrene. Thanks for looking 4
Rattlecan Dan Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Nice build. Cool color. You can't get it down to the ground much more than that! 1

Andy Oldenburg Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Hey Steve, one fine ride come to a beautiful finish! I can´t imagine what the problems were, everything turned out perfect (although, an AMT kit... I can guess). The wheels are awesome and the color makes the difference.? 1

The problems were mostly paint. I'm a new airbrusher and was trying out different mediums. The body was badly warped straight out of the box. I complained to the manufacture and they were willing to replace it but they wanted my receipt else I would have to pay shipping and handling. I bought it new at a club meeting so no reciept. I worked with what I had.
XYHARRY Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Nice looking Mercury Steve. The stance is cool. It has me thinking about how I'll build my 60 Ford Starliner. Well done. Cheers, David. ?? 1

Koellefornia Kid Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Nice to see it finished, turned out great! Nice colour, cool wheels and stance! 1
happy grumpy Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Looks really good in that color. The trim is pretty clean. 1
espo Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 Like the way your pictures show just how low and long those Merc's were. Beautiful paint work and body trim. These old kits had some unusual engine options. 1
Jay Whittaker Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 (edited) LOVING the stance on this!! Great tip on the wood grain too, thanks for sharing that! Edited May 24, 2023 by Jay Whittaker 1
